a guy just told me I would gain 12 hp by deleating the belt driven fan and getting a electic one. Is this true?

You don't have a belt driven fan. It's hydraulically driven off the power steering pump.

You would do well to ADD an electric fan. X-Metal has a couple different setups to improve engine temps on hot days, and reduce heat soak.

It's a double bonus if you have one in front of your X-Metal Paxton intercooler.

Boomer's setup has two connections for two different fans. I believe he has two different fan sizes as well.

If we could move the tranny cooler somewhere else, other than 3 in-line, should help the cooling.

I run an extra fan for the heat, plus with the hood shut...it looks way cool:)

Install was easy

Mine was a pc of cake...autozone visit, follow the directions for wiring, opt for the red button toggle in the dash....two hours tops. dropped about 4 - 8 degrees in temp on most days.

Pic1 shows the toggle ...near the keys

In person it looks cool

Is there anyway to wire it up to the existing fans? Or is that a pain in the ass?

What parts did you get at auto bone?

I like it

You can hook it into the AC unit for power then use the theremostate thingabob that comes with it. The kit comes complete except for the the required six pack & toggle if you go that route

Our fan has no pwer going to it, it runs off the power steering pump just like the vipers.

It must have a solinoid that is triggered by a thermostat to turn on once the truck reaches a certain temp. The fan comes on earlier on trucks with the Stage II PCM. You could use this trigger wire for the solinoid to trigger the fan to turn on at the same time as the OEM fan!

Anyone know where that is? I want to hardwire it to the 'trigger' when the normal fans power on or the AC hot wire. I dont know where that one is

I kept my separate too. I can dial in the temp when it comes on. Also, can turn it on with the key to "ignition" and not actually starting the engine (red button).

Just curious but isn't the power steering pump run off a belt from the motor. So when the fan kicks on the power steering pump has more drag? Thus the reason for an electric fan to free up that drag:dontknow:
