electric fans for track cooling ?

looking to find out what others have done for extra cooling for our trucks.... the hydraulic fan on high speed is loud & takes away from low speed steering, are you guys adding another fan (electric) to aid in cooling or possibly replace the hydraulic fan altogether ?

was also wanting to cool manually @ the track with an electric fan/relay/switch setup, anybody doing this already ? where'd ya get it ? single or dual fan ? how much ?

that wouldn't work @ the track for cool down, hydraulics run off the engine.

no one else is running an electric fan ?

I ran a fan for some time, aux that is, but now this is what I found

running down the road I had it set at 180 degrees, but it would acutally kick in and the truck would start to run hotter, thus never letting the engine cool off.

but now I think you can remove the oem fan, and install an aftermarket fan, but personally I dont think it would cool quite as good, and one that would may be a touch on the expensive side,

but adding a pusher fan to the front with jsut a switch is not a difficult thing to do, and would help cooling at the track, but now it would only cool the water in the radiator,

I think also you can add the fan from a viper car in place of the oem unit, and it may work pretty good also.

wouldn't you think the air pushed thru the radiator would also cool the motor ? you got one in your store ?

it was pushing, but I think it was jsut fighting the oem fan too much:dontknow:

Electric fans work great at the track with a timer when you have one of these

It installs into your radiator hose.

Two 12" fans fit between the AC cond and radiator, i used steel angle to support them independantly rather than clamp them through the rad. or cond. Bought the kit through Hayden with adjust thermostat, relay, and a override switch on the dash. (approx $200 total cost.)

interesting, who'd ya buy it from & was it a complete kit ?

does it work with your hydraulic fan or was it a replacement ? stinker said earlier when he ran both, temps went up, what about you ?

well, from what response i've been getting, it seems like i could get away with a 20" x 2.5" deep pusher fan on the front of the air conditioning condenser, kinda like what wazzup has on his truck (though i haven't heard from him yet)...... i guess i'd need a relay, temp sensor & a bypass switch to use it @ the track for cool downs....:dontknow:

the first is a fan , it will blow the dust off ya engine and is loud! but pushes a ton of air.

the second is a controller, does a ton of stuff.

now spal does have the same fan , jsut less cfms, and is half the price too.

but now spal is heads above most other fans, fully sealed, weather proof, and jsut top quality, and they have tons of other fans also.

but that is a start, let me check on another source.

then you got like deral, theres is cheaper, and more economical, but dont push quit as much air.

but it depends too on which way you want to go, i suggest taking a look at both deals, look thru all there fans, and see which one suits you.

the one thing about spal was is theres was really thin, about the thinest I could find around

25-cent Fan Mod

The 25-cent cost estimate is probably a bit high, since this is a pic of the only part you need:

The first step is to open the hood of your LX vehicle (this mod has only been confirmed to work on 2005 Magnum RTs, but should work on all other LXs) and then find and open the fuse box.

Once the fuse box is open you must remove correct part (I think it's called a relay) which you should find here:

(Sorry for the indecipherable writing, that's what I get for using MS PaintXP, but you should be able to figure it out.)


Now you simply plug in your high-cost replacement...

Congratulations, your fan should now be running!

Since the fan will continue to run until you remove the wire, and replace it with the relay you've hopefully saved, I definitely wouldn't leave it running overnight, but it didn't cause any battery problems during the several hours I used it at the dragstrip, and it did manage to lower engine temps a good 10-20 degrees!

If you are really ambitious you can certainly use a relay, switch, and lots of wire to rig a 'safer' more permanent fan switch, but since I'm not really planning to use it outside of the dragstrip, this is good enough for me.

i get the idea there, you lx guys must have an electric fan already ???

srt-10's are a hydraulic fan, won't run with the engine off for cool downs @ the track.......

i have a aux electric fan on my truck. i use it when im not moving in traffic and the temps start to rise. i have mine connected to a manual switch in the cab.
