Took my wifes 300M in for her first emissions check. I noticed they dont use the wheel rollers or the probe up the tail pipe test anymore. They plug into your computer. Check it with the key on and then start it and check it at idle. With that being said....Us with the after market PCM upgrades, when time comes, are we going to fail this test? If we are supposed to remove this PCM and put the stock back in, will the actual odometer reading and the stock PCM reading be the same? I was told that there is a way of knowing if you have not been using the stock PCM by checking between the two. Will this red flag you? Anyone.....anyone? Thanks.

I have the Mopar pcm. I don't think it will be an issue. If the truck isn't throwing any codes, it should be fine.

Don't they just plug in the OBD2 prong and have done anymore?:dontknow:

They're testing the sme way over here in Pennsylvania. They only test this way for '96 and up cars with OBD2 (On Board Diagnostics 2).

I recently had a small situation with my Focus. I run an aftermarket tune and the car failed the test because it was had only run 5 of its 7 internal tests. Anyway, I went home and uploaded the stock tune back into the Focus, drove it for 40 miles or so, then went back and it passed all 7 seven of its internal tests with no porblems. The mechanic told me that every time you change the tune, or disconnect the battery, to put a few miles on it before you bring it in to test, so the the computer has a chance to run these tests.

From what the mechanic told me, as long as there are no Check Engine lights, the car will pass IF at least 6 of the 7 tests are run. He also mentioned that some vehicles have these 7 internal tests, some have 6, some have 5 - Different manufacturers program their vehicles different ways.

What I wanna know is WHY does it still cost so damn much for emissions testing?? I mean, when they started the whole Dyno test thing, the excuse was they had all of this expensive equipment to pay for. But now they just plug in to your car, type a few things into the computer, and wait for it to pass. I guess the taxes the State takes from my paycheck aren't enough?:dontknow:
