So I have been having this high idle problem for a minute now. Lives around 2g rpms, I goose the throttle, and it comes down. Change out TPS.. no luck.. Take off my IAC and its fuckin filthy. Literally DIRT in the hole. SO, I clean everything, disconect battery, and go for a drive.

On the way home, I hear a squeel, like my exhaust is loose or something, almost metal on metal squeel. Pull over, pop the hood. Almost def coming from motor. I seriously thought I was gonna seize this thing up on the way home. This morning, fire the ol girl up, and it sounds like I got marbles in my valve covers.

So, i figure lifters.. but what would cause that squeel? Any special thing I gotta do to the rockers when I start replacing lifters and pushrods? On my Dak, I just tightened them down until they stopped chattering.

As far as oil goes, 0-40 mobile 1, with Lucas additive. Looks clear still, smells good. Compression test was done last week, i got between 175 and 150 psi.

...and she still idles high. FML.

cool, maybe try a reset on the pcm, remove the battery cables, touch them together for a bit, then reinstall, try that on the idle issue.

Also, if you haven't already, be sure to pull the IAC (idle air control valve) on the throttle body and clean it as well. It may need to be replaced.;)

as far as the noise its hard to determine, when you cleaned out the iac you could have let some stuff into the intake and it has worked into the combustion chamber which is possible, but you said a squeal, so not sure on that:confused:

Well, thats not something to celebrate!! I touched the terminals together. Pretty sure IAC is just fracked. Taking off rest of this week. Replacing lifters.. getting heads worked while they are off (anyone got a set to trade off?)... Was on VCA website browsing thru, and one guy had the same problem of the squeel and it was his lifters. Ugh.. At least while the SRT is down, it gives me reason to  my 66 Fury.

    Harmonic Balancer Bolt is loose.

Check balancer and bolt. If loose, remove balancer and inspect crankshaft for damage. Replace Balancer regardless. Replace crank if crank damage creates more than .001" of clearance on crankshaft. Pining the balancer if no longer press fit is REQUIRED, recommend pinning regardless.

hard to believe the lifters are causing a squeel sounds like the belt may have been making noise. Maybe the alternator or ac compressor?

Man.. that shoulda been the first thing I checked. Good call. Already had an issue on my 95 Dak.. replaced all the lifters and it was my crank pulley.

I know, right? Only starts to squeel after a driving a few miles. It's weird man. Been wrenching for the past 12 years, seems I find something everyday that makes me scratch my head.

You replaced lifters due to a squealing sound?

Your dyno numbers were never what they should have been so it might be better to take it apart and see if there's something wrong internally, better to find out this way that at the track this weekend.

How much for your ported heads? Ported, springs etc... Would you take my old ones as cores?
