It seems like the more I read through these threads it sounds like this engine is "moody" when it comes to serious upgrades. Sounds like you spend at least $3000 for a nice horsepower upgrade with a chance of blowing out the engine ($15,000 I believe?), so I'm learning unless you have a lot of money to dump into this truck you don't want to do any major upgrades besides intake and exhaust? If it's anything like my diesel (had exhaust, intake, programmed) then when you do the computer upgrade it causes porblems, I blew the egr several times on the diesel and it just seems the power that comes from the srt may cause problems too? Any insight to this concern:dontknow: ?

start saveing for a tranny, the 48re's dont seem to go well in the 10's or cummins

are these trucks covered under the 7/75K from dodge and if so are the tranny's covered or only the internal engine parts?

3/36 standard factory warranty, unless you have an extended one that you paid for...... :(

if memory serves right, some trucks, like mine (2500 diesel) came with a 7/75k, BUT as a second owner it becomes a 3/36k from original date of purchuse

that might be what u were thinking of, but its a 3/36k on the 10's

ive gone though 4 factory trannys and 2 TQ convertors so far

its becoming alot cheaper to do internal fordged upgrades nowadays bro...im buying mine from stinker...k1 billet rods and weisco fordged pistons...run you around$2.5-4k depending on upgrades and options...plus installation...really not too bad considering what some of these guys paid a couple years ago...

Engine mods worth it? That depends on what you want your truck to do? And if you want to build a truck that will stays together then be prepared to drop a bunch of cash into it to forge the pistons, rods and maybe do billet main caps pending on what your end plan is? I'm putting a ROE on and plan on running around 10-12# of boost with meth injection so I'm building a solid foundation first that will take my end plan ;)

For starters get you a flash from B@G chrysler, best bang for the buck, and the quickest service around:rock:
next remove your cats, and do a cai, and a cat back muffler system

your truck will be faster, much more fun, and safe to drive.

It will take you about 6 months for the power to get old, by then you will have lowered it and done other small mods.

by then you will know which way you want to go:)

That thing is going to fly...I don't have that kind of cash to dump into it.....yet!!!!!!...just bought a warranty for the truck today for a piece of mind...and also cut the rear 2 cats (noticed a little more throttle response, haven't got to open it up yet).....

I have a turbo with forged pistons. If I had to do it all over again I would only do:
SCT programmer ($800)
CAI ($200-300)
Remove cats
The above set up but with my front cats got me 12.7 on stock tires for the 1/4 mile. You end up with a lot less headache and are driving around with the ability to kill most things on the street and run high 12's at the track. Of course this depends on what your end goal is, how much money you have to drop into the truck and how much you want to worry about things breaking.

I think that is the exact thing I'm going to do....like my diesel set up, it is fast and reliable as an everyday driver....I removed the 2 rear cats today (thinking of going all 4) going for the CAI next couple of weeks...then SCT in the next few months....plus I just bought an extended warranty today so it can still be honored with these upgrades!!!!!! :D

Some people can do a little modding and be happy forever. I am not one of those people! Haha. I did some little mods first, intake, exhaust, lowered. That lasted me a few months till I got bored and wanted to go faster. Then I added the Paxton, I was good for about a year. When it blew up I was already planning what the next step would be.

That said, figure out a goal and work in that direction. If you start playing with the idea of FI go ahead and include building the engine in that plan, or at least to do it sooner rather than later. I was lucky and didn't damage my block ($$$$$) other have been less lucky. It's always cheaper and faster to do it right the first time than to tear stuff up and have to go back and redo it better than before.

A used block is going to run you several thousand in good condition if you can find one. Most of the ones you'll find range from short blocks to complete and cost anywhere from 2-8 thousand the last time I looked. Bare blocks are pretty rare.

Love the video clip scrambler...lol Yea that's exactly why I'm not going to bore, charge or anything internal, only computer exhaust, and CAI, unless I hit the lotto and can afford to dump $1000's into this truck sticking with the light mods...besides it's my everyday driver....Thanks for all your input guys :congrats:
