Your engine should run cool with factory coolant if you did the 170 stat and tune? Mines 185 year round, AC on or off, traffic jam or highway. Consistent 185:burnout:

Yeah I run the same 185* in summer just wondering if it was better for the engine but I'll stick with what I have, all new Zerez G05 (HOAT) and a 170* stat, and the proper tune of course.

Newbie question here: With the 170 thermostat and the proper tune, does your fan turn on at that temp or what? I know when my fan kicks in on those hot summer days it practically drowns out the sound of the engine. It's loud and annoying!

When I put in my B&G Stage2 PCM with the stock stat the fan would come on hurricane speed fighting the higher stat to cool it down, once the 170 went in it never went above low speed(our fans are 2 speed, normal and tornado...LOL) even in the hot summer with AC on. Hope this helps......... Sometimes I just ramble on.....

So I'm understanding this correctly, the 170 tstat helps the fan come on earlier at a lower speed and you must have a tune to do this? I have an SCT Tuner from Torrie at Unleashed.

You are correct Peter, the tune needs to be adjusted to turn fan on sooner then it won't fight to cool it down after it gets too hot.....

Had heating issues all summer, had Dr Viper install my 170 ts 3 weeks ago and can't get the heat above 185. Granted it is not in the 100's as it will be this summer but stopped dead in traffic or cursing at 85 mph (remember, in TEXAS) and 185 is tops with oil at 180. Had I listened to him last summer I would not have installed the duel fans and junked up the truck (there gone now). :rock:
