.....the ambulance I am driving this month is a 2008 RAM 4500. It has a button for an exhaust brake. The owners manual is at the main station so I can't read up on it. Is it okay to just leave the button on all the time? It sure sounds cool as hell when you let out of it and the exhaust brake kicks in. TIA!

I wouldnt leave it on all the time because it takes engine power away, but using it all the time is the best thing for it. those new 6.7L cummins are terrible for getting clogged with carbon.

If you leave that on during winter time you are Nuts. Let off the go pedel, hit some ice or??? and you are going to be toast. No auto Jake Brakes in the winter period. IMHO

exhaust brake is like a Jake Brake. you can turn it on when ya get in & it will be automatic when you let your foot off the go pedal.
or turn it off & on as ya need it.
most ex. brakes can also help get engine temp up when first started, just turn it on.

I am in Florida. No ice here on the roads. I just didn't want to mess something up by leaving it on.

naw. go for it. if i remember correctly it should also go to lock up in the tranny.

youll be fine, i have never driven in snow but the exhaust brake will improve your ablilty to slow down, they dont reduce power. you get a nice aftermarket brake thats adjustable it will almost put you in the dash. cool stuff.

Oh yeah these motors suck big time. Dodge has a tsb out where we have to drill into the side of the trubo and run a cleaner through it to get rid of all the gum inside there. Their getting better though, they are starting to sort out all of the problems, Damn EPA. IMO the 5.9L cummins was the best:rock:

DO NOT LEAVE it on all the time.Only when there is a load and it being a ambulance the only time i would trun it on is if i know i will be hauling ass and MIGHT have to stop early.I have a banks Ex brake on mine and thats one thing they tell you in the manual.

Thanks! I think I will turn it on when in emergency response mode and turn it off otherwise.

travis you wont hurt it leaving it on all the time. they are designed to be used. same thing with big diesel's just a smaller application.
