Exhaust Cross over (H-Pipe)

Hello everyone!!
This is my first post (I don't get on the computer much these days). I plan on running 2 mufflers and I would like to know where I would put the cross over pipe for the exhaust. The mufflers will be the Flowmaster Super 40 Series.

Since I will be instaling 2 seperate mufflers, will I need to do this?

I have one Flowmaster with both pipes running through it, no crossover at all. It's an '05, what year is yours? I left the rear resonator, just replaced the muffler. Sounds great, good chioce IMHO.

Mine is an 05. I was told that there is more performance gain if you run 2 seperate mufflers. Is this false?

Not sure about any performance gains. I will dyno my truck today *crosses fingers*, so you can get an idea of what kind of increase for a one-muffler setup.

I use to have 2 Super 40 series on my truck and did not have a cross-over...the mufflers give a nice raw sound....very 60's hot rod....... ...and I mean that in a good way

Cool!!!!!! Thats what I'm looking for! You wouldn't happen to have those mufflers for sale, would you? I notice you said "used to". I hate to wait for them to "break in"!

Use an X-pipe, the Magnaflow has one built inside of it.

I'd like to do something similar - just change the muffler (not the whole cat back) - probably Magnaflow for a deep but mellow sound. Can anyone tell me a part number for a Magnaflow for an '05 QC? Many thanks!

An H pipe to be effective needs to go in before the mufflers, or be built into the muffler.
A "X" pipe is better for flow and improves performance more than an H pipe. The H or X pipe should go in right behind the cats.

In boosted aplications the least restrictive the exhaust is the better it works.

In all boosted applications a straight through muffler design is prefered over a baffled design. A Flowmaster will work OK in a boosted application if sized properly (bigger is better).

I do not plan running any boost, so I guess my decision to go with Flowmasters was OK :rock:

you don't need a crossover pipe on a viper motor. each bank of cylinders is an independent 5 cylinder engine. so a crossover is actually going to cause exhaust puffs to collide with each other.

a v8 needs it since they a cylinder from each bank one at a time. the viper engine fires 2 cylinders at the same time.

H pipe

Last night I went ahead and installed the h-pipe where they come together the closest.

I took off the muffler 2 months ago and it sounded as if it was back fireing when i let off the gas. Now that I put the h-pipe on, that back fireing sound is gone!

I didn't f@#$ anything up, did I?
