Exhaust Piping Size / Mufflers

Hi All

Quick couple of questions...

I'm planning on doing a custom exhaust w/ side pipes on my SRT-10. All I have is a K&N and I'm wondering what size exhaust pipes would work best?. I believe most of the aftermarket piping is 3" so I was thinking of going with that. Stock piping (what is left of it) appears to be 2.5" or so. I need to all four cats in place. I don't plan on doing too many performance mods right now but probably down the road..

Second question is related to muffler choice. I like a pretty mellow sound that gets loud when you get on it so I was thinking of going with Magnaflow 24" mufflers. My question is: Is HP/TQ decreased affected by size of the muffler? If so, I'll probably go with smaller mufflers. Any suggestions?

The most restrictive part of your exhaust are the cats.....you actually have 2 cats (first 2) and 2 resonators......removing the resonators wont effect your emissions but will give a few ponies and sound.

2.5" pipes will be fine since you do not plan extensive modding. You actually may have better low end torque with the smaller pipes.

I really dont know what size muffler will give you the sound you want with a side exhaust....it will already be louder than a full system......

If the muffler is straight through length will have little effect on HP......

Lot of different opinions here as exhaust go.....being yours will be custom you may have to experiment......

so the second set of what appear to be cats are actually resonators? thats good to know. I thought all four were cats and for smog.

I guess what I need to figure out is if I ultimately want to mod the truck out. If I do, it would be n/a. Probably will do headers at some point. Think 2.5" would be ok w/ headers? I guess I'm trying to guage at what point going to a 3" will be advantageous.

IMO the 2.5 will be fine unless you go FI and or cam/heads....

I did have 3" all the way but when I changed the headers from Bassani to Mopars I used the mid pipes that came with the headers. They are 2.5". From the mids on back are 3".
