Out getting strange
Hey guys

I hooked up an electric fan I bought at autozone to the front of the condensor and wired it up to the compressor wire.

When I hooked it up it up the fan seemed to come on when the AC turned on but I now noticed the fan only turns on when the compressor engages.

The compressor engages for a few seconds the stops then reengages the fan follows this cycle.
Where can I wire it up so it always stays on with AC?
If that cant be done where can I wire it up to always stay on when the truck is turned on?

Thanks for any help.

Seems like you would be better-off hooking it to a toggle switch so you can control when you want it on.

This is what I use..
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product2_10001_10002_744387_-1

Here is how I connected it:

Relay Plus ---- Pink Ignition wire under dash
Relay Neg ---- Any good ground
Power + ---- Battery
A/C + ---- AC Compressor Switch

You can adjust the temp to come on when you want, and it will only start whe the trucks ignition is on (so you dont kill your battery, and still have fan run when its off, but still hot!!)

It will also cycle the fan when the AC comes on, if the engine is not hot enough to trip the temp sensor.

Thanks.

Should the fan be doing what its doing now turning on and off with the cycle?

I spliced the wire that plugs into the AC compressor itself.

Ditto.

Yes, because the compressor cycle is controlled by the PCM, which sends +12v to the compressor clutch to engage when needed this triggering your fan relay also...

Now... you could also route a wire to behind the dash find the switched lead from the AC button/dial, and use that as your source to trigger the relay also...

That would be sweet being able to find that wire behind the dash but I know with my luck I would destroy my entire dash.

I think the easiest solution is to get a relay kit, I really dont want to get a toggle switch. My wife would turn it on and forget about it.

Obtain your lead from something that only has power when the switch is on. :)

Ok I am completely retarded when it comes to finding wires for this crap.
I was lucky to be able to wire it up to the AC clutch.

So if I get a toggle switch I would wire the positive from the fan to the + on the switch and then a wire from the + on the toggle to an 'ignition on' wire.

If this is right what wire is good? Something simple to find
IE the pink wire under the steering wheel....

Correct...now finding the wire on the dash is where you need a test light for, or a wiring diagram. Its faster to get a test light. Ground the alligator clips, then poke the wire you think is your +ign and see if the light turn on when you flip the key on, and turn off when cycled off.

Also, make sure you fuse it, and possibly relay it if it drawn enough current.

Here are some pics of the wire that tapped into..

There is a harness that is behind the e-brake pedal.

In that harness are several large wires, and a bunch of smaller ones. Look for the smaller "PINK with ORANGE STRIPE" wire.

I would still test it to make sure good ol DCX did not change the wiring codes from 05 to 06... :D

Make sure you still use a relay!! =)

I def got a relay

I dont have an orange stripe but a yellow one.
2 wires in the 'smaller bunch' 1 wire about a 12 guage another smaller maybe like you said 14/16 guage

I assume the smaller one should suffice.

Alternatively looking in the fuse box there is a couple 'ignition' fuses

One is ignition run only

Can you tap into that and if so how do you run a wire into the fuse slot?

It might be yellow on mine also... the light I was using maybe made it look orange... I would test that pink/yellow wire with a test meter and see what you get with ignition on and off...

Not sure about the fuse box.. I know the 2005 and 2006 have completely different fuse boxes...

Awesome thx pyro. If you didnt live in surprise I'd buy you a beer! Gilbert is a long way

I lived in Gilbert for 7 years.. from 1997 to 2004, then I moved out west... I was in the developement off of Val Vista and Warner.

It was mostly for the AC but a thermostat wont make you run cooler unless you have air pushing through as well. So a lower thermo in stop and go traffic will only delay how long it takes to get up to normal temps.
Now a fan(or original fans turned on sooner)and a thermo combined will achieve the maximum cooling and keeps temps low.

AZ Pyro thanks for all the help, it turned out awesome.

My sister lives off of Val Vista and Southern and my parents live off of Lindsay and Southern!!! What a small world!!

Welcome to the house Shade, I dont think we've met! Good luck on the wiring job!!:D
