i was looking at some old post and some on posted a link to a company(gothoned.com??) any way i read about this a while back in some car mag and was wanting to know if anyone on here had done it.

I have had an extrude honed Intake manifold (non Viper motor)... since the process is pricey for indivudual items, and honestly the costs can outweight the gains. It really depends on the inefficiency/poor casting of the stock intake manifold.

Since I'm too lazy to type, here's a snippet of what Extrude Honing is...

Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM) was developed by Extrude Hone Corporation in 1966, AFM is a very precise and economical method of smoothing and polishing internal surfaces and producing controlled radii. The process is particularly useful for difficult to reach internal passages, bends, cavities, and edges. The AFM process uses a specially formulated abrasive laden polymer, hydraulically forced over, or through, areas requiring finishing. The unique properties of the polymer (called Media) permit it to flow through passages and conform to the shape requiring finishing.

but if you want something "port" matched you can not beat it.

the company i found (bonehead performance) is 788 for a viper intake, they don't list any gains or what not, just a price list. why would this be any better than port matching than doing it by hand? can they bolt the intake/head/exhaust together and hone all of it at one time?

the example i saw a few years back is yes. it was on a SB Chevy set up. the guy had everything bolted togother. dowel pinned after the process. he was buildin a badass little small block.

ok, sounds cool, but i havent seen any aftermarket intakes for a viper either, do they just flow well enough that we don't really need one

i think reason you dont see many intake manifolds is the demand just isnt there for them. i know i remember reading a while ago a company that made a custom one for someone in here i was considering it once i get to rebuilding my motor and doing all the forged internals before boosting it. but i know they are out there. :)

Extrude honing has been used for a number of years in racing for manifolds that are required to remain stock. This process left the parting lines intact and the manifold appeared untouched. Racers are always finding gray areas and Tech had a hard time keeping up. But cheating is cheating. When I ran into this I changed the rules for the series I was Tech Admin for and required max port dimensions that could be measured with templates. This was 20 years ago and now nascar uses a simular system for example the body contour templates as well as others.

i think Hellboy has a Hogan's Racing intake. EED has a Hogan intake on one of their engines they built.
beautiful work.

just checked out the photos of your intake. HOLY SHITE !!!!!!!!! nice. did not know i could drool that much.
