Has anyone installed one of these? http://www.ezdown.com/

I got one while I was at the dealership over the weekend. My problem is that I can't get one of the fittings installed because the rear bumper below the tail light is in the way. My question is, how does the tailgate come off???
The hole I need to get to is the oblong (sp?) hole on the divers side towards the bottom of the tailgate.

:argh: You shouldn't have to take the tail-gate off ;)

Check there web site first, they have several vid's of installing.
It should bolt right-up. I have an '04 and had no problems. :marchmellow: :slug:

The little silver bolt that goes in the hole can't make it because the part of the bumper is in the way. I will go get a pic.

I have one and had no such problem. You may have to lift up the tailgate a little to get the shock on. The oblong piece should go on just fine with the tailgate all the way down. If not, lift it up a little. Once you get it in do not tighten it down to much. You will snap the little aluminum piece in the back side if you do. Sounds like you are a little confused on something. Go to their site and watch the videos. It is pretty easy to install.

I really like mine. Big help. Before I had the Ez-Down my wife opened the tailgate one day with one hand and could not hold it up and dropped it. Not pretty. Did not do any damage but the tailgate went a hellin.

If you have anymore problems give a shout we'll help you out.

The ezlift is the one I got... It's cheap as chips and takes 80% of the weight off moving the tailgate either up or down.

D

Here is what I'm talking about...

Get someone to hold the tailgate up a little while you install the fastener. Had my grandson hold it for me and was no problem.

Hint, that fastener doesn't seem to want to stay tight, locktite it when you install it.

Duh......... I got it.... Yea, never thought to lift the tailgate up.... that way it clears the bumper.
And to think, this is the second time I looked at it to figure out a way.

Im my defense, the pictures in the instructions show the tailgate down. Guess I was following way to close.

For those wondering........ do this and you can get to the hole

I can totaly see this coming back up at Panama :argh:

Mine came loose once...Luckily I caught it before it damaged surrounding paint. Be sure and add a little locktite.

installation is a piece of cake, it takes only a few minutes

it's really cool to have it!

Went with the Easy Lift Tailgate torsion spring. It makes the tailgate easy to lower and raise it back up. Actually takes the weight off the tailgate. You can close it with two fingers. And it's about $25 bucks.

Thats what I was thinking about going with. My buddy has a toyota truck, and to open and close the tailgate takes no effort at all.

Now that you have the ez down which one do you like better?

I had both also. I prefer the Easy Lift. The EZ down just helps when lowering the tailgate. The Easy Lift assists in both direction. It balances the tailgate so that it doesn't slam down but also helps when raising it. Heck, my wife handles the tailgate without any problem.
