What a trip, I've been calling for lawyers all day so far. Certainly some amusing stories already but still no real luck. One potential firm (Adams Law Firm) I'm thinking about so far. They want $200 to talk with me over the phone and this doesn't include the initial warning letter. Yeah, I understand lawyers are there to make money but I'm wondering if this is about normal?

I need some tips from anyone who as delt with legal matters before. What should I look out for and such. lol the joke would really be on me if I got screwed over by a law firm while trying to get unscrewed in the first place.

For those who dont know why I'm persuing legal action please see the link in my sugnature concerning Hyper Audio

a consultation should be free, not $200.00 and should be done in person not over the phone. that sounds like a rip to begin with. i believe any reputable law firm would give you at least a free 1/2 hour consultation for free. at least from my experience anyways.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
I can't very well walk in for a consultation given the distance, but I'd be happy to make a trip once the ball is rolling if need be.

There was another law firm I went to when I was in Texas several months ago regarding this case, they wanted $500!!! Bastages, what's the world coming to anyhow...

yep, the first consultation is usually free, it helps both parties.. (client)decide if they want to use the lawyer and get general questions answered (lawyer) decides if it's a case worth pursuing...

With that said... it may be easier to go through small claims courth... assuming that your damages are under $5,000 (i'm not sure if that amt is right, or if your dmgs are under that)....

you could always take it to judge judy :D

We spent $500.00 consultation fee and then 5K retainer.. but this is also in Los Angeles ca.

Damages themselves are probably over $5000
I put in over $13,000
Then the small factor of the 150 miles added to my truck... at $200 bucks a miles for Samuels RentaRide Service & Grille I'd say that comes to ... carry the 1, add the X, yep, $30,000 for the rental, 13k refund, 5k for repair, and a million for my anguish I'm a nice guy so lets call it an even $1,000,000 lol I wish I could get that anyway But seriously, I have to get something done heh. Guess I'll keep calling around.

Well you have to picture a middle age fat balding guy with stains on his T-SHIRT asking $500.00 for a consultation... yes, that was the lawyer and he looked like he should be at home in his mom's basement playing World of Warcraft. ("MOM! Dirarrea!") Yeah, no joke.

Consultation should not cost anything. But expect a $5 - 10,000 fee up front.

ok... looks like my case would fall into one of the following two. But neither of them describe my case. Consumer Law deals with people who produce products directly, not services it seems. So that would leave business litigation then... nevermind I guess I answered my question. Unless there's just another category that describes this heh *keeps looking*

Business/Corporate->Consumer Law (non-criminal)

Any matters pertaining to issues that a consumer may have with a product, a company that produces products for mass consumption, and which matters are dealth with civilly rather than pursuant to criminal matters

or...

Business/Corporate->Business Litigation Matters

Any dispute, conflict and/or litigation pertaining to a business, business documents, or the business world

I would say this...
Business/Corporate->Business Litigation Matters
