Well......

Good news - I made it!!! Many of you may remember that I got hired back in January, and started the academy in February. We lost over 25% of the people we started with, and fortunately I was one of the lucky that made it through. I get my badge in about 3 hours :rock: :rock: .

I will post pictures of the graduation - I guess it's supposed to be a pretty big deal :dontknow: :dontknow:

Here's some pics from family night on Thursday where we got to show our fams a little bit of what goes on.... I'm on the left in the first one...

We did a little propane prop action, and some of you might notice the hole in the 5" hoseline spraying in the air in the background. Ooops

Here's to your first day out in the companies... keep you cell in your bunk. "New Guy was going on "about it being warm today".... when we were done cleaning equipment......fixed.

They're going to be teaching us some repelling, high rise operations, ropes 1/2, and some other hose lays that are specific to our department.

The hazing has already started, and it's definitely a little different to get used to. I got the impression that they haze me because they like me. If they werent talking to me at all, that'd be a bad thing...:dontknow: :dontknow:

The rope/ repelling, high rise OPS, and hose lay's are important... not sure if your into "height'...the higher the better for me...A.K.A..the nick.."spiderman" (which I got from manipulating the outside of a building without rope)...it's a long story.
Anyhow I happen to like Technical Rescue, and have been involved with the team since I got off probation and assigned Station 4 (our Technical Rescue Station). There should be a variety of "Special Op's Teams" there...see what you like when your out there...something may peak your interest....AND there is usually stack pay associated with base pay when your on a team.... which aid's your pension, retirement, and pay. Right now all you got to worry about is your first year.

LOL! That is awesome!!!! Too bad for your probie! I'm preparing myself for my share of fun! They had a guy recently who left his uniform out and the next crew staple gunned it to the ceiling in the bay...had to get the ladder company to come get it down

And TRT looks freakin awesome. I'm really interested in that. The actual reasoning for my group's hiring (12 of us) is to put in a heavy rescue truck with firefighters cross-trained in TRT and HAZMAT. I would love to do that someday. After probation of course.

Sweet pictures....Did they not shore in that trench rescue? Most of that shoring equipment looks like yours...?

Next week we're supposed to be doing some high rise operations...they told us today that we'd be repelling off of the stick...110 feet or so in the air... I'm pretty excited for that.

That call was a nightmare. Those are our panel's...but this incident occured in another City...we were called in after the fact (almost an hour into the call). I would have to tell you about it on the phone...too much to type.
110' is not bad... be a little more dynamic off a truck....but it will work.
Have fun...I like the figure 8 w/ear's to drop... not going to let you "free ride" though (usually)... in fear of glazing the rope... I get away with it sometimes..better at > 300':rock: Have fun.
