"Following are a few time saving tips on using your mouse scroll wheel in Firefox.

1. Use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom a page:
To zoom into a page, hold the Ctrl key and turn the scroll wheel up or away from you. Likewise, to zoom out, hold the Ctrl key and turn the scroll wheel down or towards you.

2. Use the mouse scroll wheel to scroll through tabs:
Most Firefox users end up using a lot of tabs simultaneously. When that’s the case, one can see an arrow at either end of the tabs to let you scroll through the tabs and view the hidden tabs. A much easier way is to place your mouse cursor anywhere on the tab bar and scroll your mouse wheel up and down to scroll through the opened tabs.

3. Use the mouse scroll wheel to open hyperlinks in a new tab:
The usual way of opening hyperlinks in a new tab is by right-clicking on the the link and choosing ‘Open Link in New Tab’. Here’s a much faster but a relatively unknown way of doing it. Just click on the link with the scroll wheel. The link will open in a new tab.

Bonus Tip: You can even click on the Home button or the Forward/Back button to open the respective url in a new tab.

4. Use the mouse scroll wheel to close tabs:
Just place your mouse cursor over a tab and click with the scroll wheel to close a tab. This I think is the most efficient and faster way to close a tab rather than clicking on the small cross on the tabs. :)

5. Use the mouse scroll wheel to go forward or back web pages:
The scroll wheel can be used as an alternative to using the Forward (Go forward one page) and Back (Go back one page) buttons on the toolbar. Hold the Shift key and rotate the wheel up to view the next page or rotate down to see the previous page."

A few more simple, yet effectives...

1) Drag and drop There are many things that you can drag and drop in Firefox.
2) Keyboard shortcut
Other than the usual shortcut keys such Ctrl + T:eek:pen new tab, Ctrl + N: open new window etc, here are some not-so-well-known, but useful, shortcut keys:
  • Ctrl + Enter: Insert www and .com to the address bar. If you enter “about” in the address bar and press Ctrl + Enter, the browser will load the “www.about.com” page
  • Ctrl + +/- : Increase/decrease the font size
  • Spacebar: Page down, same function as pressing “Pg Dn” (This is one great shortcut key that I didn’t know till now…think I should just bang my head to the wall)
  • Shift + Spacebar: Page up, same function as pressing “Pg Up”
  • Alt + Enter: Duplicate the current tab
3) Mouse shortcut
  • Ctrl + scroll up/down: Increase/decrease the font size (same as the Ctrl ++/-)
  • Click a hyperlink with the middle button (or scrollwheel) opens the link in a new tab
  • Shift + scroll up/down: Navigate between the next and previous page
4) Bookmark keyword search
If you set a keyword for your bookmark, you can easily open the bookmark simply by typing the keyword in the address bar.
To set keywords for your bookmark, right click the bookmark and select properties. You should see a ‘keyword‘ field where you can enter your keyword.
5) about:config
There are tons of configuration that you can edit to tweak the browser performance. Type about:config in the address bar to show the configuration. More information on how to modify the value.
6) Restoring Toolbar configuration after Firefox crashes
If your Firefox crashes and you find that all your toolbars setting are jumbled up or not displayed properly (especially the web developer toolbar), just go to View-> Toolbars -> Customize. Select “Restore Default Set”. Everything will be restored to the default state.
