With my Reg Cab 6speed. I have been playing around trying to figure how to launch this thing for a while before I finally decided to go to the track. Well, I thought I had it figured out.

Pull up to the burnout box, turn the tires over in the water, eased up a few feet, put it second gear and one hell of a burnout ensued. Pulled up to the line, launched at 2000 rpms dumping the clutch. My head almost hit the windshield from bogging so hard. Was not expecting that. Ran 14.0. Next pass, same thing, launched a little higher at 3200. Same thing, bogged bad. Third time around I figure it's going to leave or I am going to win the burnout out competition. I brought it up to 4200. It bogged again just not as bad.

My best pass of the night was 13.6 at 104. My truck is all still completely stock. Hell, I still have the paper plate in the window. My question for you six speed guys out there, how are you launching. Maybe I am doing too much of a burnout or hell just not launcing hard enough?

Once I learn to get this black beauty off the line I know she's going to fly. All the banging of the gears went well. First to second my foot never leaves the floor, second to third just a partial lift cause I have missed it enough times speed shifting I get nervous.

Now while we are banging gears here one more question. I am sure my answer will reveal itself once I get her off the line like she is supposed to be but for the time being what are yall crossing the quarter in gear wise. My first pass I rode it out in third. Second pass crossing the line i hit the limiter in third, and third pass I shifted to 4th.

I wish we could have made a few more passes but they had to keep shutting the track down due to cars blowing up. Weather was so nice out tonight they just couldn't keep them together.

I will put up some time slips tomorrow, have some video too I may upload somewhere, for now I am going rest my weary eyes.

You more than likely are still running the 4:10's in the rear end. Put in some 4:56's or 4:88's and your bogging will be significantly eliminated. I run 4:88's and if I launch at 3500 RPM's I usually have o back out to hook up!!

04's came stock with 4:10's. They switched to 4:56's in 05!!

You should be well into 4th gear before the traps. Yours ET is probably suffering because you are revving too high in each gear. After 5500 rpms the power band falls off on these motors. You need to shift earlier in each gear and get into 4th before the traps. Do that and your mph and your ET will improve.

Sounds like you are getting a decent launch but you need to feed in more throttle as you leave the line. That should cure the bogging. I have an 04 with 4.10s and I don't bog too bad if I feed in more throttle right after dumping the clutch.

How were your 60 foot times?

Some good advice above...especially the shift at 5500 comment.

You should be well into 4th gear when you hit the lights at the end of the quarter. One of the early testers of this truck recommended dropping the clutch at 5000 and letting off the throttle a little as the tires grabbed, then pouring the fuel to it.

Traction is a big problem with all the torque we put down...I am still experimenting and adding mods to get more traction...

DUde are seriously doing your burnout in 2nd gear??????? your clutch aint gonna last much longer if you do that...
Well herez my technique for track. Best time yet is a 13.3 @106 with a 1.9 60ft..
drive around water box.
Dump the clutch in first gear and just scrub the tires, no need for a smoke show burnot w/ stock tires
(by the way, set psi @ 20)
Generally i rev to 3k and usually add or take 500rpm depending on track condition.
Just dump the clutch and ride the throttle out keeping the tires slightly sqeeling.(no slipping of clutch!)

and yes shift a tad early 3rd gear, i found that if shift into fourth I always get an extra 3 mph..give or take one
