As some of you may know I am a weenie when it comes to running at the track. I think I've made that widely known over the years. Well, I was at Houston Raceway Park last night with intentions on running #1900 for the first time since I purchased her back in August, 2005. I knew I wouldn't squeeze out every drop of power running down the 1320 like I know others can. slow91 and SVTFreak were there so I had slow91 jump in the drivers seat and do the honors for me. He did the usual preparation for the run (tire psi adjustments and other stuff), but mind you's I never changed the spark plugs since I got her. His initial run was a sub-mediocre 14.00 @ 102 mph. What's sadder is I would have done worse. I think the proper numbers for a near stock truck is more like 13 something @ 109 mph. Since I drive her all normal with care regularly I couldn't tell the difference if she lacked performance of not. Anyway, all that told me was I needed to beef up her plugs and plug wires along with headers. I DO have a spare PCM for her that I'll likely get flashed after all. But I wasn't going to spend anymore dough on her since I figured I had spent enough on visuals and the audio. DAMN IT I always knew if she was tracked I would end up dumping more money in her..... And that's precisely what I am going to do. I’m not trying to break the 550 rwhp mark or anything. But she does deserve to run the way she was built to. :dontknow: Any suggestions?

I'm not too swift at the 1/4 mile either and I ran a 13.21 at 107 with an intake from Justin, Borla cat-back, and X-metal shifter! You'll get there, dont worry!:burnout: Have not been back to the track since other mods though:(

i hear ya' anthony,i have not been to a track either (closest is in houston 250 mi. away) i'm thinkin' change over to a 4:56 gear set.

The only current mods are a K&N drop in and Magnaflow cat back.. oh and a X-Metal Gen II shifter. The driver mod will take practice.

I think 105-107mph is more accurate of a stock RC.

IMO, Headers are great, but if you want to save some $$$ and get near the same performance, just delete your Cats and pick up some nice HP. You've already got a cat-back, so you'll be set. If you choose to drop the cash for headers, then you will make even more HP, plus they'll look great under your hood.

Otherwise, a Flashed PCM, 170 T-Stat,, and a set of gears (4.56 or 4.88) will really wake-up your truck.

I had a Stage2 Flash, 170 T-Stat, Long-Tube Belangers w/ High Flow Cats, Magnaflow Cat-Back, and 4.56 Gears. That was enough to manage a 12.66 @ 111+mph. For the most part, traction was still somewhat decent on the street too!

Go find your credit card!:aetsch:

I went to the track up here in the Jersy stix..... it was a COLD evening, 45 degrees wind blowing made it colder.... 45 psi in the rear tires, result was 14.33 spinning sideways in 1st, again sideways in 2nd and spinning some more in 3rd..... mph ranged from 103-108......

Are you guys leaving off idle or what? I know the poor quality track conditions played a part.....

Are you running the stock tires? If so i believe you should be around 22-24 psi.

I would not run at the track with the stock 4.10 gears..........its only gonna beat up the clutch if not burn it out completly. Wait till you change them out. Changing out those stock gears is such a great mod......whether is 4.56 or 4.88, it will feel so much lighter than the stock 4.10's.

Anthony, get that pcm flashed by DC Perf. with a stage two, get rid of the cats and your truck will be a completly different animal. Your throttle response will be so much improved.......you can really feel the power going to the rear wheels IMO.

I'm in the same boat. These 4.10's are just too tall. I'm thinking the 4.88 gears will be my next mod. Thanks for the feedback on the shifter Patrick. The Gen 1 is so much better than stock but on the down side it's a little more reach. I'm smacking 3rd like there's no tomorrow.:D

I never noticed it was a longer reach as I have my seat "up on the wheel" Nascar style!!!:D LOL

Seriously, I keep my seat up close even though I'm 6.2 I just like sitting that way.

You will love the change of gears to 4.88's. Truck feels way lighter and cruising at parking lot speed or in heavy bumper to bumper traffic is much easier.

Unitrax is where I purchased my setup.

Stock RCs run 13.70-13.80 at 103-104..............

not in Houston 12.9 first pass ever in my truck next pass 12.7. 2.0 60 ft time and the traps were 107-108mph.

best pass to date with just SCT, catback, and K&N drop in 12.5 at 112mph.

Next time anthony give me the nod to jocky and i will get you a low 13 or 12 at best....:elefant:

Got any video of it running this quick with stock parts? So what is your secret? Do you slip the clutch and wot shift? What gears does your truck have?

blaine is a very skilled driver.

his stick ripping ability is legendary.

nah, just kidding the guy can just flat out drive and many people with a faster car have found out..........the hard way.

slow91 is pretty good in his own right as well as big red.

it would be intersting to see if blaine could improve on the time slow91 got..........................very interesting.

If you're referring to Island Dragway in NJ, then the best thing you can do is never go back there - it kinda sucks IMO.

Make the trip to Atco, Englishtown, or even Cecil County in Maryland.

Warmer weather, say in the 60's, will greatly improve traction as well.
