First time to track. Should I be disgusted?

This was my first time to the drag strip in my life. I have a 06 RC. I had three runs. Here are the results:

First run against slightly modded SRT-4:

Me: 15.432 @ 96.45
The other guy: 14.414 @ 98.79

Second run against Rumble Bee Ram:

Me: 14.374@ 101.44
The other guy: 15.924@ 84.93 ( his r/t was -.151)

Third run against a 1999 Lightning (stock except for Magnaflow):

Me: 14.421@ 100.12
The other guy: 14.281 @ 96.52

The race against the lightning was fun even though he beat me. On all 3 of the races traction was a big issue for me. Especially the 1st. The Lightning got me good out of the hole by a couple of truck lengths. His tires grabbed great while I had a hell of a time getting them to grab in first. Once I grabbed I was reeling him in...slowly, but ran out of track.

So, are these respectable numbers, or should I be completely ashamed of myself? For what it's worth my truck is bone stock except for the Volant CAI.
 
Never be ashamed of a fun time that was a learning experience......

That is unless you did something really moronic like hosing some despicable bimbo and subsequently getting the clap.......

Hell, even then, chalk it up to experience and go on.....

Track days are always fun.........

Don't be disgusted. Each pass made your times get better. By the time you made the 3rd pass you improved you time 1.011 :rock:
 
Not bad...My first time was a 17sumthin....2nd run i got a 14sumthin......third run:rock: i got a 13.1 on a completly stock truck......You'll get the hang of it. I have ran a few other times and all in the low 13's. Practice makes faster:D

Track was Pittsburgh Raceway in New Alexandria, PA. I estimate air temp was 90ish on my first run. Last two were after dark so mid-80's. It was pretty humid too. My truck is a RC. I didn't lower my rear tire psi. I wanted to see how well I could do without modifying anything for the track.

that track is 1200' above sea level....with 80 degree air etc....figure a 3000' DA....that will hurt you a bit....but not as much as not lowering your rear psi to 22ish....do you have your 60' times?....are they 2.2+....?

well there you go....

everthing is fine except the 60':D ....a 2.5 may be a record...that is the bad news...the good news is that a modest 2.0 is easily attained....and with that .5 reduction in your 60'...you will shave a FULL SECOND OFF your 1/4....

drop the psi to 22....practice that launch....think about some Caltracs and you are running low 13's....:rock:
 
After that L beat me, I figured I was stupid for not lowering my tire pressure. I saw him doing it before we raced and I should have done it myself. I would have smoked him since I was reeling him in from the moment I dug in good. But by then he was a good 2 truck lengths ahead of me. His time was 14.281. Mine was 14.421. That little bit of slippage made all the difference.

My shifts felt perfect though, which really surprised me. My best reaction time was .373 also. That made a difference too, because that happened on my best run. I gotta work on that as well.

as you probably know...your reaction time does not count against your E/T....It is fun to try to cut that perfect light...but it isn't as important as getting that 60' down.....:D

yep...

now if you challenge someone to a heads up race you can agree that it counts...ie the first one to the big end wins....but for the purposes of seeing what you truck can do...feel free to launch when you are comfortable...

with a set of drag radials and caltracs you should be able to get a 13.0 with the right DA and temp.

Keep at it.....it takes lots of practice for most people.

You were improving each run AND your truck was getting hotter each run, which takes away from some of the performance. So good job.

SRT-4s are no pushover.

I went out to the track the other day, messing around with my train horns. I look up and the light was green! lol So don't feel bad. I had fun, I'm sure you did too.

train horn and drag racing....now there is a combo that will get you on Youtube...:D

You should have seen the nats with the dual purge out the inlet and horn going off. lol:D
