Recently I received some material regarding a new product called the MPG cap.

This product is a capsule that dissolves in the gas tank and is supposed to enhance fuel in some way which not only increases horsepower but mileage as well....

Please peruse this website and watch the short video and give me your opinion as to whether or not this product is viable.....

Most of these types of things wind up being a total crock of shit designed to make other people money and nothing more. But since the person who sent this to me is a nice man, I thought I'd submit it to those with a greater technical knowledge than I possess in the hope of both bringing the product to the fore and determining its efficacy.....

In addition, I realize that this is a multi level marketing thing.....Please note that I'm in NO WAY trying to recruit anyone.....

I just wanna know if the product would work or if it's bullshit.

I am extremely skeptical about magic bullet products like this. The website and video do not go into any real detail on how the product works. Does it raise octane? make the fuel vaporize better? Is it like putting mothballs in your tank? Rhetorical questions. Being so vague only heightens my suspicions. If you received some samples of the product, your in a better position to test it (I don't recommend the SRT) and come to your own conclusions and let us know.
 
They do Make some Tablets That raise your octane But I think this product is a Scam. D thats my opinion.
 
I didn't watch it, but here's my opinion.

There are only so many BTU's of energy in a given amount of gas. I personally know of no way that you can raise that energy output.

What has happened over the years is that the engines have become more effecient in converting that energy to rotational power. You have to remember that all the energy in the fuel that is burnt is converted to either power to drive the vehicle, or heat. And in reality, most of it is converted to heat.

Well that's my 2 cents worth on this subject.

They say that fire coming out of the cyclinder on the exhaust stroke indicates that there is an in efficiency to completely burn the fuel. And that this product not only remedies that and as a result gives you more horsepower, but that this increased efficiency provides better mileage....

WTF.........?

"What we have developed is a method of providing a catalytic coating in the combustion chamber. This catalytic coating provides an infinite nano-phase surface area for the catalyst to deposit on. This catalytic coating causes a catalytic reaction to occur in its presence.
So now we utilize the fuel to carry the MPG-CAP™, in its dissolved state, to the combustion chamber, where the heat of combustion activates the chemical compound, and creates a very thin coating on the metal surfaces of the internal components within the combustion chamber.

What this catalyst does, for our purposes, is to cause a change in what is called the "in-cylinder rate shaping" of the combustion. This, in turn, provides for a 30% increase in pressure on the down stroke of the piston, in a time frame slightly altered from a non-catalyzed state. This results in the improved performance. "

Sounds purposely vague, plus they recommend 2 tablets for 23-28 gallon tanks, and a pack of 10 costs $21(plus shipping/taxes?). That's $4.20 per tank. They claim 7-14% mpg increase - My truck averages around 10mpg, so:
10 x 0.07 = 0.7 extra miles per gallon of fuel.
10 x 26(RC tank, not sure of QC capacity) = 260 miles
10.7 x 26 = 278.2 miles per tank
I get an extra 18.2 miles, or 1.82 gallons, so - 1.82 x 3.67(current cost of a gallon of premium around here) per gallon = $6.68
6.68 - 4.20 = $2.48 savings per tank of fuel
Doesn't sound like it's worth it to me, assuming it does anything at all.

If I see that photo of the 'hands holding the baby pine tree' again this week, I'm gonna start shooting.
I've never seen so many stock photographs used on a single website in my entire life.

The problem with asking technical people about this is that we want to know more....but the inventor isn't talking.
The only word they use that's even close to technical is "catalyst". That doesn't help me much.
