Mike is wright you going to spend 1,600 on header and only get 5 to 10 or so it is worth it
First of all you will get more than "5 to 10". JMBJustin posted a before and after dyno sheet with Belangers and got over 20 at the wheels.05viper qb said:Mike is wright you going to spend 1,600 on header and only get 5 to 10 or so it is worth it

You also get more that subjectively. Coated headers reduce underhood temps, which can also impact engine performance.
Coated headers look at least 10 times better than the rusted up POS looking OEM manifolds. If you are going to pull those butt ugly OEMs off and pay to have them jet hot coated, you might as well spring for the headers and get the performance increase as well.
As always, JMHO.
Nowwhat said:AND for every dyno that shows 20 there is one that shows 10....and Belangers are long tubes...the gains are in the mid pipes....AND....on a paxton truck the header gains ARE less than 10....last dyno I saw was 8 and that was WITH a throttle body....SO...if you want $2300 worth of bling and 10 rwhp....by all means put long tubes and a throttle body on a paxton truck and it will look real purty....

Once again, the dyno sheet was posted. On a N/A truck with CAI, mids and tune, the Belanger headers were the only change. It made OVER 20 HP AT THE WHEELS with JUST a header change. Read this part carefully "NOT A MIDPIPE CHANGE"......JUST HEADERS...20+ rwhp.Nowwhat said:AND for every dyno that shows 20 there is one that shows 10....and Belangers are long tubes...the gains are in the mid pipes....AND....on a paxton truck the header gains ARE less than 10....last dyno I saw was 8 and that was WITH a throttle body....SO...if you want $2300 worth of bling and 10 rwhp....

I fully agree with you that there are ADDITIONAL performance gains when you delete the midpipes (cats). In that case (HEADERS AND MIDS) you will pick up 30-40 RWHP on a N/A truck.
And I paid $1500 for the headers...NOT $2300.
And I don't have a Paxton, so I don't know how they would affect a Paxton setup.

I'm all for a 50 shot on these trucks.Nowwhat said:you cant add longtubes with out changing the mid pipe.........the $2300 was with a TB......blah blah....beat the horse....beat it...
Here is another funny part of this arguement.....Everyone keeps saying not to bother with a 50 shot of Nos on our trucks....cuz you won't feel a difference on a 5000+lb truck...yet people want to shell out $1800 for 15rwhp via headers.....

And the 40 or so rwhp that I picked up with headers + mids was worth every penny.![]()

Yeah but I got a hell of a torque curve.Nowwhat said:go take your plate off for crying out loud........hell you couldn't even get to 550rwhp with heads and a cam.....you shouldn't talk....

Ask my neighbor with the Paxton truck and 629 rwhp who can't beat my time at the track. :burnout:
Oh, and I like the plate, hehehe.
That's messed up right there now.Nowwhat said:"I got a hell of a trq curve"....that is like when a guy with a small dick says it is not the size of the wave but rather the motion of the ocean.......bwaahaha....

I think it has an 11.9x - 12.1x in it with no nitrous. The 12.5 was a shake down run on the stock clutch. :rock:Nowwhat said:bwwahahahaha....hehehe.....
Seriously though....150 shot....say hello to mid 11's....

hunter_angler said:Just a different angle - I didn't go with headers... not because of the cost, but because of the sound. I like a loud exhaust note but I don't like to hear underhood noise and valvetrain clatter. No flames, it's just a personal opinion, but in a lot of ways headers have always sounded kind of tinny and cheap to me. Call me an old wimp but I like the cab quiet for music and conversation.
I do agree with Nowwhat that header gains, at least on an internally stock engine, are minimal. Going to midpipes with no or high-flow cats alone has shown 15-20 Hp gains and as noted, you really can't add longtubes with "no other changes." But, if you want every ounce of power and don't mind the cost and sound effects, go for it. It's about priorities.
With ported heads and a bigger cam with more overlap like 2933 probably has, the scavenging effect of headers comes more into play. I disagree though that coated headers keep underhood temps below what the bare factory manifolds do. The ceramic coating helps, but the heavy cast iron still holds the heat in better and radiates it more slowly. I always love the testimony that guys can touch their coated headers not long after shutting off the ignition. They can, largely because the thin steel pipes have already quickly released all of their heat into the air of the engine bay...
I had my factory manifolds extrude-honed and Jet-Hotted. I wanted to get the most from the factory setup, eliminate the rusty look, and insulate as best I could. B&B midpipes with high-flow cats and a B&B cat-back complete my exhaust system.
Just my $.02 worth. I guess the horse has been beaten throroughly dead now. All the best.
