FOR THE RECORD
“In his victory speech after the North Carolina primary, Sen. Barack Obama...[defended] his stated intent to meet with America’s enemies without preconditions...: ‘I trust the American people to understand that it is not weakness, but wisdom to talk not just to our friends, but to our enemies, like Roosevelt did, and Kennedy did, and Truman did.’ That he made this statement, and that it passed without comment by the journalists covering his speech indicates either breathtaking ignorance of history on the part of both, or deceit. I assume the Roosevelt to whom Sen. Obama referred is Franklin D. Roosevelt. Our enemies in World War II were Nazi Germany, headed by Adolf Hitler; fascist Italy, headed by Benito Mussolini, and militarist Japan, headed by Hideki Tojo. FDR talked directly with none of them before the outbreak of hostilities, and his policy once war began was unconditional surrender. FDR died before victory was achieved, and was succeeded by Harry Truman. Truman did not modify the policy of unconditional surrender. He ended that war not with negotiation, but with the atomic bomb. Harry Truman also was president when North Korea invaded South Korea in June, 1950. President Truman’s response was not to call up North Korean dictator Kim Il Sung for a chat. It was to send troops... Sen. Obama is on both sounder and softer ground with regard to John F. Kennedy. The new president held a summit meeting with Soviet leader Nikita Khruschev in Vienna in June, 1961. Elie Abel, who wrote a history of the Cuban missile crisis (The Missiles of October), said the crisis had its genesis in that summit... Mr. Abel wrote, ‘There is no evidence to support the belief that Khrushchev ever questioned America’s power. He questioned only the president’s readiness to use it.’... It’s worth noting that Kennedy then was vastly more experienced than Sen. Obama is now. A combat veteran of World War II, Jack Kennedy served 14 years in Congress before becoming president. Sen. Obama has no military and little work experience, and has been in Congress for less than four years... History is an elective few liberals choose to take these days... The lack of historical knowledge among journalists is merely appalling. But in a presidential candidate it’s dangerous. As Sir Winston Churchill said: ‘Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it’.â€￾ —Jack Kelly

I can think of several other descriptive adjectives...so I worry about your 'either or assumption'.

But your point is well taken...people scoffed at Hillary saying that her experience trumped Obama...he worries me too. Very idealistic but really short on scars. Scars provide perspective...as long as the scars don't limit movement, if you get my drift.

I have a feeling that the Republican strategists are working long hours on creating a plan to upset the democratic nominee, whoever it will be.

I'm still one of those republicans that is spending big dollars to keep Hillary in the fight, because I think she will be the best leader available in this race.

I agree with you on this much.

Obama just doesn't have the experience that he needs to effectively lead this country in today's world climate. There are too many things going on that he has absolutely no experience in. Plus, for some reason, I always get the feeling that he is hiding something. Just a gut feeling, I have nothing to back that up with.

I am trusting that Obama is what he says he is. We have to do that these days, and we are often fooled.

On the positive side...I think that any of the three remaining candidates will improve on what we have now, and I voted for Bush...the first time, sorry.

Do you believe Kerry would have been better?

I dont have any questions of who Obama is. He has made that very plain in his speeches and beliefs. I would literally think about moving from this counrty if he was elected.

I also have no doubt who Clinton pretends not to be.

McCain is going to make me eat my words because several years ago I said I would never vote for him.

Kerry?...Yeah, right..Vietnam war hero...his picture hangs in a musuem in Vietnam among all the other communist war heros..

Gosh, I guess we are reading different materials.

What would be the main item about Obama that would lead to you leaving this country?

What is it that Clinton pretends not to be?

And what Swift Boat advertisement says that Kerry is a communist war hero?

Lots of words filled with emotion...but have your really got any objective data to support your positions?

I too said I would never vote for McCain...but I also may have to eat my words at the table with you.

You remind me of some of the Professors when I was getting my Masters degree...back every word with a reference..;)

I guess Obama and Clinton speeches mean different things to different people so i will let everyone determine their own..............As far as kerry I was not referring to Swift boat incident..his picture actually hangs in a Vietnam (in Vietnam) musuem with other war heros......along with Jane Fonda's picture...I have a client who is a missionary in Vietnam and he sent me the pictures.....I was just going to post it but I dont have it saved this computer..I will look at home tonight..

All professors are alike. Just can't kick the habit...check the source...
cite the reference, and still be skeptical of the statement, unless you can find multiple references from legitimate sources...then publish...but never sleep easy.

My professors made me suffer, I plan to get even and then some!

I don't like obama for several reasons. One of the most important reasons is that I have a choice. That choice allows me to make a decision without having to justify my position on the issues, policy or direction. So for the most part I really don't buy the premise that one has to have a clearly defined and set in cement reason(s) for supporting or not supporting any candidate.

It should be the candidates responsibility to come clean and tell me what makes them the best candidate for the job. Their job should never be to tell me why I shouldn't vote for their opponent.

I realize that in this era of our country, that is what elections have become. To list the faults of all the other candidates and then stand on those piles of faults and declair they are better than the shit they are standing in.

I have made clear for many years why we have deplorable people in office and continue to have the same sort of ill prepared individuals every year. It is the fault of the voting eligible public. We show up at a 1:3 rate and then expect that the people who are elected will listen to the publid when they know that 2/3rds of the public will just follow like mindless sheep.

You want good people in office, there is only one way. Have a 80-85% turnout of eligible voters and it will completely change the way back room deals and BS bills are passed. People will be paying attention and if politicians are not doing the bidding of the people who put them in office, regardless of the money, their gone.

I sure as hell don't want another crappy President.

So, I will exercise my choice........
