For those with headers and catless mids, did you experience the engine "surging" when on the highway, in cruise control @65+ in 6th? Keeping in mind I still have the 4.10 rear. Before my upgrade it was not an issue, truck was fine with it. Now it tends to surge or even miss. I assume it is the lack of back pressure or running to rich. I have yet to get any programmers, wanted to hold off until I do a SC, but if a programmer, like a VEC II would help this I would order today. The truck runs fine in every other gear at any speed.

Oh and the reason I mention it running rich is the fact it backfires, usually during decelleration or idle at start up, so I am assuming some raw fuel is reaching the pipes. I have only driven it about 60 miles since the install maybe the computer will learn the new setup :dontknow:

dont have headers but do have catless mids, mine backfires from time to time with bad gas sounds like it pops and hesitates at partial throttle. octane boost normally helps this or i go to another station and fill up

I'd say away from the VEC-II, not many good reports. If you go with a Paxton when you upgrade it will come with a "Split-Second" controler.
NO problems here!
And fine a good tuner, he or she can slove all your woe's, no matter what your running......

Well, I not sure if I would go as far to say " not many good reports" as there are over a thousand happy customers and only a couple of failures related to the Vec2. Even those are pointed at poor installation method or bad tune.

Either way, a Vec2 wouldnt fix this problem anyway....it only takes over once the PCM is in open loop (about a second after WOT). I would get a PCM flash in the mean time.

One last thing...65 in 6th on .410'S ? You may be borderline 'lugging' it anyway.

It is turning about 1400 RPM around 68MPH, it liked it prior to the upgrade. Hell I ran 350 miles home when I bought it in 6th running 65-70 all the way, 18MPG :) I guess 4.56's or 4.88's would fix the problem...

I run 93 octane already, but I will try to boost it a little and see if it makes a difference.

As for the Paxton comment, I am not going Paxton, going with the Roe top mount system.....

As a side note, my 94 RT10 does not like 6th either until I hit the upper 60s, I just figured the GEN III motor was a little more forgiving after my drive home experience.

I have the surging thinh with mine when crusing through town in 3rd gear at around 35 mph or so. Just figured it was a normal thing with the fairly agressive cams these thing have. Mine pops and farts all the time when letting off the gas too, its a Viper thing.

By the way it runs the same with the stock ECM and the Mopar one made to go with the headers.

 Sounds to me like a misfire. Check the wires. Alot of the time the wires get pulled apart when doing the header install.:dontknow:

I have to agree with Charles. That is pretty much lugging it. I try to stay over 70 while in 6th if I can help it. That's still a hell of a lot of weight to be pulling along at such a low RPM. I think mine does that too if I let it get to low in the Rs in 6th and under 65.
