Performance numbers for Ford’s GT 500 Mustang

The latest issue of Car and Driver magazine has some real-life performance numbers for the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang. According to the magazine’s report, the car did the 0-60 run in 4.5 seconds and the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds at 112 mph. No further details are available at this time. The car was recently officially rated at 500 hp. The GT500 goes on sale this summer. Pricing has yet to be announced.

I love the new avatar!

And given the fact that the bottom end is already equipped with Manley rods and pistons, it will be able to handle A LOT more power. It will not be uncommon to see these cars with smaller sc pulleys, exhuast and a tune making 700 +rwhp. Saw a Ford GT in Charlotte with just a tune that made 592.

If they could only remove 500 pounds or so. I had an '03 Cobra when they first came out, very fun car. Also, very fun and inexpensive to mod...esp compared to a Viper, SRT Ram!!

All that power is great..............but is it gonna come with that ford rattle? :dontknow: LOL!! Actually I really dig the looks of it. I thought it was gonna sell for around $40k? Have they upped the price?

You can bet the dealers will have a dealer markup of at least 20K.

Wait and see what the Challenger will sell for...50K.:(

...............can you say, "addendum"................?

........................of course you can..................

Here's what kinda sucks. The 2000 Mustang Cobra R had a (normally aspirated) 5.4 32 valve V8 making 385hp, and the '03/'04 Cobra had a Supercharged 4.6 32 valve V8 making (some say underrated) 390 hp. Both the 2000 R and the '03/'04 Cobra have the ability to run 112 in the 1/4.

This new Shelby GT 500 has a Supercharged 5.4 32 valve V8 making a supposed 500hp, but from the numbers posted above, is NO faster???:dontknow:

One of two things. Either Ford is sandbagging the performance numbers, or the new GT 500 is one heavy-ass p.i.g. Two tons Plus 'o Fun...:(

We should be seeing them on the road very soon, which means they'll be at the strip shortly thereafter. I'd be willing to bet they go faster than 112mph stock.:)

Car and Driver did the test and the 400 h.p. Vette beat it a tenth,it weighs 3900 and some change.41,000 as tested I think.
