On my way home last night I noticed Autozone had a sale for Valvoline synpower full synthic oil with fram tough guard filter...
So I bought 2 of the deals which in total was a little over 10 quarts and 2 filters for about $55...
From what I hear Valvoline is pretty good motor oil, but I am wondering about the Fram filter since I've heard good and bad:dontknow:

regular Fram filters have a cardboard endcap (not too good). However, I do not know what the tough guard's have over them, other than better filtering?

Wal-Mart

Mobil 1 22.96 5 QT x2

P90 Mopar filter 5.00

Total= Around 55.00
Didn't see that deal at my walmart:dontknow:
From what I know, Mobil 1 and Valvoline are in the same oil group so I'm ok with that....I'm concerned with the filter and if anyone has experiences with the tough guard?

It is no deal, all the time. Just get 2 of the 5 quart Mobil One Oils and the Mopar filter.

Sounds like it...too bad I can't hold off n do a group oil change then:D
I woulda prefered Mobil 1 but o well.....next time i know!

I just went to pepboys and got 2 x1 gallon jugs of mobil 1 10w30 for under 40.00 they had a special going. I used the fram tough guard on my honda for years never a problem but this is a different truck, I went with the K&N filter.

to answer your question i have ran tufguard filters on my daily driver for years, it seems to filter alot better than most, i would compare it to a mobil one filter or a little better than factory. i usually switch between factory and the tufguard. my oil when it comes out at 3k looks like new, when i use the factory its a little darker(brown). but color is not the best way to actually compare.

Hey Bone, These look like a great way to go, how long have you been using them?

About two years. I only replace the filter once every 3 oil changes (recommended interval). I inspect them every time however. Extremely durable. Synthetic screen. More surface area than a standard filter.

Nice thing is that you can see what it is trapping or not trapping. Easier to change out than a screw on filter.

Haven't heard a bad thing about them.

When I pull my Hemi engine I will put one in with an accusump.

Do you have a part # for the one you are using?

Those look pretty cool - did you buy direct or is someplace else cheaper? Any tips or tricks?

They are not cheap, but you only change out once every 3 times. So they are about the same price as regular filters and less than performance filters. You can change out each time if you like, but you can view the filter every time. You can even clean it.
