I wanted to get some peoples experiences on how low they've had their fuel level. First, my gas light in the dash comes on when the DTE display says 40 miles (left to go). I know that readout is nowhere near accurate, just a huge estimation. Then the DTE changes and starts flashing Fuel Low but I keep driving b/c I'm just a few blocks from home and the gas stations are all closed. I live less than a mile from a gas station so I can get there the next morning.

I know its not good to take the fuel level so low, but its the first time AND the last time I do this but its good to know its limits.
I just want to get your experiences and any knowledge on the subject before I attempt the gas run or if I should go get a gas can just to be safe.

Mine ran out (aka died on me LOL) once at 5 DTE, and one at 10 DTE.....go off the needle more then the DTE :)

How did you know the DTE was 5 or 10? Once mine gets below 30DTE it flashes "LO FUEL" constantly. Mine doesn't even give a reading below 30.

My DTE doesn't flash or give any low fuel signal, it always gives miles. The other day the OL brought the thing back pretty low, when I fired it up it said 1 DTE and by the time I was out of the driveway it said 0 hehe. I made it the 2 or 3 miles to the station, but I wasn't real confident about it. The needle was pegged to the left too.

the next sign you have after your light on the dash is you run out of gas. :D yes i have done that and its not cool having to call the wife and have her get you gas. i still hear about that time i ran out of gas. :dontknow:

While traveling on the freeway I ran mine all the way to "0" then went another 12 miles before refilling. If I recall federal law states that all vehicles must allow additional 35 miles distance when the low fuel warning light appears.

I had cutout in the 1/4 with 40 on the DTE....:D :burnout:
