Gas Prices and Self Justification

I need some soap box time so here it goes......I love my truck and would'nt trade it if gas prices continued to rise as they are currently doing. Most of you guys use your trucks for sunday use or whenever you get a wild hair up your ass to tear up some roads and then put em away for another sunny day. Some of us use our trucks for daily drivers and from the looks on the forum many are wanting to get our of their trucks due to increasing gas prices and practical reasons.

Personally I don't need to justify to anyone why I drive what I drive but I get alot of shit from people about how much gas mileage I get and how it must be a bear to maintain. With my payment, gas, maitenance, and insurance my truck cost me about $1200.00 a month to operate, so yes its expensive. I've never owned a vehicle that costs that much to keep on the road but damn I've never owned a vehicle that makes me smile like this one does. I guess there comes a point when you own a vehicle and you ask yourself how much is to much to spend on a vehicle. I'm single, no kids, 30 years old, run a night club, and am loving life. The truck actually makes me feel alive everytime I get into the seat and buckle up. You only live once so why not? I don't understand why so many people hate on our trucks because everyone beleives they should be driving cars that get 30+ MPG. I say FORD that! Why drive a boring car that can't get out of its own way? If I wasn't spending the money on the truck I would be spending it on women or something else that I would definatly never get any money back out of. So to all the folks who hate trucks that get Sh**TY gas mileage ya'll can kiss my tailgate for I will continue to do what I do along with all the members on this board and thats having fun.

All this came from some dumbass tree hugger that gave me a speech out in the parking lot today when I got to work. I like to listen to people and this guy was blowing some serious crap my way. I had no rebuttle for him as I did'nt want to give him the pleasure. Alright.....I'm off my soap box. Thanks for the space.

Seriously I had a guy tell me the same thing and I told him thank you for saving energy, I need it! I drive mine for work also and already have over 10000 miles on her in only 5 or 6 months. If you enjoy your vehicle and it makes you smile that is definately worth something. Keep in mind I also have my 54 Willys Jeep but dont trade off a vehicle based on today's prices they will go down!!!!:D

My truck is what makes me smile, Ill keep it until the day I can find something betterand as rare.

I would have eaten a raw hamburger right in front of him as I changed my oil letting it spill right into the ground. Then I would chop a tree down and not plant a new one. Then I would fill up my tank and waste a whole tank buring up my tires polluting the ozone.

Then I would club a baby seal.

Let them go eat bark off trees and eat their dolphin safe tuna.

I hate those people. They are the same people that complain about the environment yet never recycle. You should have given him a ride and that would make him smile ear to ear. Then he would get a SRT10 and come to the next GTG. :)

For almost 2 months every SUV in our lot was keyed. Only the SUV's and big trucks. When I caught wind of it I started to park at our other bar around the corner. I took down the guys license plate number after he walked away and am going to have my dad do a back ground check on this joker. The old man has the hook up with the state police on getting whatever he needs on anyone. I almost bet that same dick today had something to do with the ring of SUV keying that was going on until cameras were put in. The keying is still going on just in other lots that don't have cameras. Some people need to get a life.
 
The guy needs to be beaten in front of his kids!!!!

Like you Cablefed, the truck is also my daily driver. How much daily driving? Well, in almost a year I've put 12,000 miles on it (that also includes a couple of heavy-duty roadtrips), and I have another 2000 mile road trip just at the 1 year mark of ownership.

I haven't figured out my daily/weekly/monthly costs. But also like you, I don't care what it is. Unlike Mick Jagger, I *can* get satisfaction- the second I hit that red button.

Fortunately, I get more smiles and gawks than I do frowns and fingers. I wish I could have gotten a pic of the guy driving the Roush F-150 as he went by in the opposite direction.

I try to be careful with my driving, but let loose when it's appropriate. The grass huggers should actually be THANKING me for driving this truck: It gets better MPG than my Durango did, *and* it uses higher octane so fewer pollutants end up in their precious patchouli-filled air (anyone done a study on what patchouli is doing to the environment? That'd be interesting).

If the Greenies really want to help out, they'll DRIVE THE F-ING SPEED LIMIT, and not jack up traffic while their hybrid decides which source it wants to use. When I have to downshift to avoid crushing your Insight like a beer can at a frat party, you (yes- you Mr. Save The Earth All By Yourself) are forcing me to expel more greenhouse gasses. I *was* expelling a normal amount until your little bio-diesel go-kart couldn't make it up the hill because the 12-pack of organic mineral water in the back was bogging you down.

You wanna save the planet single-handedly? LEARN HOW TO F-ING DRIVE!
I'm not talkin' Mario Andretti. I'm talking like a normal human f-ing being. Pay f-ing attention to what's happening on the road, in front of you, behind you, and on both sides. Read the sings instead of f-ing with the band on your hemp hat. Try to plan your trips; don't wander around aimlessly.
And for pete's sake, use your f-ing turn signal. I'm not Kreskin so I don't know which way you're going to turn....and neither does my 5200 lb. truck.

Folks also need to consider the rarity of the vehicles in question. There are FAR more Prius(es?) and Insights and 'green' vehicles on the road than there are SRT-10s, both trucks and cars. Even fewer are daily drivers. Count up the emissions from the 'green' crowd and then from the SRT-10 crowd. It's more lop-sided than Oprah's carb intake.

It's fine with me if folks think they are going to get another 100,000 years out of the planet by driving a hybrid car for 10 years of their life (I would say "more power to ya", but that'd be...well...silly). If they don't hassle me, then I won't have to smack them down with logic and embarrass the hell out of them in front of all their lord board-wearing friends.

Here's one for the greenie that hassled you today:
Did you know that the coal fires that are burning inside the mountains of the US release more carbon monoxide into the atmosphere in ONE DAY than we humans have put out in 100 years of driving?
And that's only the fires in the US.

Oh, and if I caught someone keying my truck you'd see all about it on Fox News: "Up next, the story of a man breaking the arm of the person who keyed his vehicle."

JUST TURNED 15K ON MINE IN JUST OVER A YEAR.LOVE THE TRUCK.YEAH IT COST ALOT TO MAINTAIN AND RUN BUT WTF.YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE.MY KIDS ARE GROWN AND GONE.I AM GOING TO ENJOY MYSELF AND BUY ME SOME TOYS.WIFE WILL GET OVER IT OR SHE CAN PACK HER SHIT.SHE SAYS I AM OBSESSED WITH MY TRUCK.QUIT CLEANING IT ALL THE TIME AND CUT THE GRASS EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE! I think the best way to "push back" this type of questioning is to go on the offensive yourself. Probing questions like, "where do you /your relatives earn a living?... How Green are they/their companies?.... What do they drive?... Did you ever throw anything away as garbage?... How about your employer?...... or the rest of your family?.... Do you use lights or candles?.... Do you, and all you know compost?.... Did you ever buy something that came in a plastic package?.....What did you do with the wrapper?...... Does anybody in your family or anybody you know use disposable diapers?.....How about prescription medication? (residual compounds now found in water supplies) ..Do you live in a house?... Did the chop a tree down to clear the land?.... is your house made of wood? You came up to a total stranger to try and save the world, does that mean EVERYONE you know prescribe to your style of living? Are you done with them, and are now starting with the rest of the world?....... Sanctimonious hypocrites!
