Yes, unbelievable... after 6 weeks in our Belgium customs department  , my shifter from Wifey finaly arrived! :dancing: :star: :dancing: :star:

So , sorry , if i missed something , but after surching some threads about it i'm not quite sure about the best way to install it :

1) Xmetal instructions don't mention anything about aligning....

2) Denise and Jerry write to put shifter and transmission in 2nd gear for
install.

3) I see BOOMER writing to loose the nuts a 1/4 turn and slam 3the gear a
few times hard...

 :dontknow: is there meanwhile a solution on how to install the best way ?

Congrats ! :D

Place truck in neutral (make sure emergency brake is on ;) )
Remove stock shifter ball
Remove the center console (3 bolts under the rubber liners, lift the center console, lift seat console, unplug cigarette lighter)
Remove bolts on the shifter floor cover plate (May have to cut the carpet to get to one of the bolts...I didnt)
Remove 4 alan bolts holding the shifter to the trans

Clean trans mounting surface
Take rubber shifter boot from stock shifter and move to the Gen IV
mount Gen IV shifter in reverse order ...with provided gasket (use blue locktite on alan bolts)

I have swapped shifters about a dozen times...find its easier to install with it in neutral.

for me, those things mentioned didn't help my slight grinding of second gear, when i first installed my gen4....... boomer claims that new shifters need a "break in" period.... personally, i think the upgrade of the viper master/slave cylinders & centerforce clutch made the biggest difference......

There is some breakin required but agree....Viper master/slave unit is almost a must with the GEN IV. Any degradation in hydrolic performance could lead to partial and or mis shifts.

 guys:rock: thanks so far ....but i begin with the shifter , so don't you make me crazy on slave cylinders etc...:D
Let the modding begin ! ;)

PS can i now buy a vowel ? :dontknow:

X metal billet shifter instructions
• For 04-05 models:Remove the 3) 5/16 head bolts holding your center console down. They are located under the rubber mats in the drink holders & the center tray
• On 06 models, remove the top console lid. On 06 models you will need to trim the plastic area to the left of the shifter for clearance. Use a carpenters knife or a small hobby saw.
• Remove the shifter knob
• Slide the console over the shifter & set to the side after unplugging the 12v accy plug
• Remove the 5/16 bolts holding down the plate with the rubber boot over the shifter. Some of the bolts, you will need to pull the carpet back a little to get to them
• Remove the 4 bolts holding the shifter to the transmission
• Clean the transmission mounting surface & apply a thin layer of gasket sealer to it.
• Install the 1 gasket supplied with the the shifter
• The nylon washers supplied go between the shifter and the shifter lever to help dampen the harmonics.
• Install the shifter base & apply the loctite to the 8mm screws & torque to 14ft lbs
• Install the shifter handle at a height that feels comfortable. The 2 piece shift lever can be mounted in a multitude of ways and positions, it can also be mounted on either side of the shifter base assembley. It is customizable to however you like it.
• Run the shifter thru the gears (with the key turned on) several times. Slightly loosen the 4 bolts holding the shifter to the tranny and run thru the gears again 2more times, then retighten the bolts.
• The shifter arm/lever can be mounted on various sides of the shifter, the 2 piece lever can also be mounted in various heights and configurations, so experiment with it and see what you like. Do forget to loctite the bolts!
• Do not Remount the console, until you have driven it and retorqued all of the bolts. Really torque the 4 shift arm bolts!.
• The secret is to let the shifter do the work. When going from 2nd to 3rd just use the palm of your hand. Subconsciously you might move the auto alignment the shifter is trying to do. The lower height adjustments work better for racing use. It shortens the throw & centers the shifter

Hey thanks Gary , shifter looks great !
Have to move stuff this weekend to our new home so install will be for later ....:bawling:
Was thinking , as shifter needs a break-in period :dontknow: and me getting used to it , to install my 4.88's at the same time , so those monkey-miles can be done for the both !:star:

Put the shifter in first. Takes 30 minutes tops. Then go bang some gears. The shifter will break in as you use it. The gears you have to drive easy. I put my gen2 shifter in and went straight to drag strip the next day. I didn't miss one gear.
