For anyone who installed headers, and I know there are alot, I just have a couple of questions I would like to ask of the experts poking around here or anyone else with an informed answer.

I just installed a set of Gibson Shorties and want to know if extra hangers on the exhaust are needed to take any weight off the headers and if so where the best place would be to mount them? Also I noticed that after the install my dipstick tube is like a millimeter away from the header (pass side of course). This going to be an issue? I guessing not since the tube is metal. Finally, is it necessary to put any kind of wrap around the steering shaft boot.

Thanks....

no, no and no. I would recommend a wrap around the starter and check your power steering lines too, I just wrapped the starter and no problems.

What did you use? I was thinking of getting some of that aluminum foil looking tape type stuff from Lowes Home Depot or where ever I can find it. Think that'll work? I was thinking about wrapping it around the heater hoses too.

So you did not add any hangers and no problems with sagging or cracking?

My Gibsons are Jethot Ultra Z coated and I have no issues what so ever.
The dipstick could be moved over easily with a little pull,I would recommend a retorque of the Header bolts after about 100 miles and no extra support of the exhaust should be needed!!:burnout:

Thanks guys. You pretty much confirmed what I was thinking. Just wanted to hear from others who have done the same thing to see what their experiences were. I appreciate it. Just gave me a little piece of mind. I am going to retorque them, thanks for the reminder, every little bit helps. Install went ok except for stubborn bolts on collector and unhappy wife when she saw truck parts all over front yard. Oh well :)

SLVRSNAKE Are your headers coated, Or just stainless?

Ditto on all the above, You may want to cover your fender well(plastic) on the passanger side, mine has melted a small area away right at the collector, and for the dip stick, you can bend it out of the way, be carefull not to do it too much or it will leak at the tube/block connection!!

Marc T,I have been using the stainless gibsons for some time now.I had some heat issues for awhile.I installed heat shields and got it under control. Here is a pic. not installed.

As for the dipstick, bend it down or out towards the fender? As for the question on the headers, they are stainless, not coated.

Then you will have problems with heat. You will melt the wheel well on the passenger side,And your steering knuckle bushings on the drivers side, at a minimum.

Really? Ok, that would have been good information to have b/f the install. Any suggestions on where to put the heat protection to stop it from melting the bushings on the steering shaft and what to use/where to get it?

Sorry, I'm retarded. Where did you get the heatshields from?

Before i purchased the heat shields i wrapped the shaft with a foil back insulation for high heat.I posted on here about heat issues several times, you may have been able to do a search, and found it.:dontknow: As far as the wheel well,Foil tape may work.I just did not like the look.

Got a starter shield blanket from JEG's online. I think they also have complete header blankets if your too worried about it, but kinda takes away from the idea if having nice looking headers vice rusty stockers, after all, the Gibson's are mainly for looks.;)

Not sure what I am going to do yet. Am noticing a burning rubber smell when I had the truck out last night. As soon as it is hot and idling I smell it. Seems to be coming from the driver's side.

You can always take them off and have them Jet Hot coated!!

Would appreciate a pic to see your setup and where stuff was getting toasty. I was looking at the bushing on the control arm (pass side) and can see where that could be and issue. What about the ABS sensor any problems with that?

As for the JET coating. About how much to for that?
