Coinciding with the release of General Motors' Viability Plan, the automaker has disbanded its High Performance Vehicle Operations team, the crew responsible for the line V-series Cadillacs, the Chevrolet Cobalt SS, HHR SS and the V8 version of the Colorado. According to Vince Muniga, a spokesman for the General, "All high-performance projects are on indefinite hold. The engineers are moving into different areas of the organization, and they will work on Cadillacs, Buicks, Chevrolets and Pontiacs." Muniga went on to say that there are no plans for high-performance versions of upcoming plans, but once (if?) GM is in a better financial position, the team could be reinstated.

makes all of our trucks a rare breed even more rare now if it happends to Chrysler

So does this mean that they will stop development but continue to sell current models? Or is the CTS-V and the ZO6 finished?

Most of us are old enough to have seen this before.

The last crisis saw the end of the muscle car era.

Just dig in for 14 years of schlock from the automakers.:p

Ah well if it is not financially viable then don't do it. I think they have bigger problems, they have to take back some of the market share of the mom and pop grocery getters then they can build dream machines

May not be long for SRT at Chrysler.....no schedule has been posted for the 2009 SRT track experience....there have also been some layoffs at the SRT main office..

The Camaro SS is already developed. The teams they dispanded are the ones that develop future products. The SS will still be available. All existing products will still be sold. They have to recoup the development costs. There is very little expense to building the vehicles now that all the tooling is done. Only reason they will stop building them is if we stop buying them. Just don't expect any improvements other than minor stuff over the next who knows how many years. It's a bummer. The 500 plus HP vehicles of today will be worth a lot in the distant future in some Capitalist country somewhere on this planet. Unless it all ends in armagedon.

If only I knew for sure. I would party hard for the next 3 years. Since I don't know for sure, I guess I will do the responsible thing.

Yeah, me too. Maybe it's better not knowing for sure. And my 2012 comment I don't really believe. So it will be a big surprise to me too if it happens.:dontknow:
