Got Back from Maxton,NC and it was Sweet!

We got back today from Maxton and we did pretty well. Before you guys go nuts on me about pictures, I'm afraid my pictures are going to be next to nill. My wife was supposed to take pics, she got ill and I'm not sure how many if any came out. I'll post what I can on Monday.

Now for the good stuff, the weather was very nice Saturday and there was about 72 entries for the weekend tune-up for Bonneville. Alot of Mustangs, Bikes, old street rods and a few streamliners. Because of my lack of a rollcage, I knew that after I made my license runs at 125mph, I would be limited to 135mph for my max speed. Well, before my first pass one of the Pro Mustangs in the back of the starting lanes went up in flames. Alot of excitment later, racing got started. Speed channel was there to film a new series they are producing called "Speed Records" and I was next in line for an interview when the car went up in flames, needless to say, no interview. I'm sure they have some shots of the runs, at least I hope.

My first pass was at 10:19am and I made it at 125.48101, got my license. The run was very easy, the truck was in forth gear to keep me from going too fast and I could tell she wanted to go much faster. I checked in at tech and was told that the record for our class was 125.89mph, so I went back to the starting lanes and at 12:15pm, I ran at 135.89624mph. NEW RECORD!! I checked in, got my record and was told to not exceed 135 again. Bummer.

My son went next, he has not driven the truck nearly as much as me so his first pass was for his license and he made a pass at 1:56pm at 123.86457mph. A little disappointed in his results he went back to the start and at 4:02pm he ran 137.28720mph! NEW RECORD! He also missed the third gear shift! He had to regather it up and still was able to run over 135mph and he said the truck was over 145 just before the traps, and he had to let off so he would not get into trouble. WE also had a car blow a motor just before he was to run, so he had to wait a hour and a half while the track was cleaned.

Well, with only a little time left, and with my wife not feeling too well, I went to the race director and plead my case to allow me to try one more run at a faster speed since I would be coming back in September to run with the proper equipment, the race AirRide and the blower. He told me if I went faster than 145mph, I would be banned for the rest of the year. With that in mind, I went back to the starting line, and at 5:06pm ran a 143.66440mph pass!! NEW RECORD!! And I was told that I was done for the weekend, but welcomed back in September! Guys, it was still pulling in 5th, at least 200 ft before the traps and my speedo was indicating a speed of 155mph, I let off and did not get to the brakes, no need too, when you lift, it gets SLOW NOW!

This was on the street tires, the X-metal drop kit and the only motor mods were the Vec THREE and the stainless long tube headers and stainless exhaust. I was very pleased. There was a Dodge Ram Quad cab deisel truck there with a Banks turbo, Full street setup with a roll bar only, and they ran 166mph. So much for trucks being slow. What a Day. I'll post my timeslips and the pics on Monday morning.

It was very surprising to see how balanced and stable the truck got at the higher speeds. I think the tank relocate and the ballast bags did their job, because there was no problem with rear bite. And the battery relocate. I am going to be very interested to see what Silverback gorilla has to say, one of my harshest critics and I think secret admireres, if I could learn how to spell!

That was the best part of the whole trip, We can be very competitive with each other and its alot of fun.
 
Thanks, and what was really cool was we ran in full street trim, we did not block off the grills, no tape, still ran the mirrors and it was FAST!!!
 
It went very well. Here are some of the pics, but I'm afraid it may be all that came out. The other Dodge is the one with the turbo Diesel. the shots of the rollcage are from the other Dodge, Its a 5 point cage, I was told it is NHRA legal. I was not all that impressed with the quality. The bends actually had wrinkles in them.

Its nice to hear of triple digit runs conducted at the right place. I'm quite surprised that even at track they mandate some safety equipment. As for the cage, I agree the layout looks cool... Imagine being at a stop light and having some lambo pull up rev his engine,,, you glance over, roll down your rear windows to reveal the cage and purge the Nx...Then just casually drive off:D :D

I'm kind of surprised that they gave you a record when the truck wasn't legal. That's usually against the rules.

Now why do you think I'm one of your "..harshest critics..."?:dontknow:
