Took off Friday for weekend of fun up in Flagstaff. Loaded the trailer with bikes and headed out. That morning I was getting a bit of noise at idle so I popped the hood and appeared to be in the area of the tensioner. I figured if the bearing was going I'd probably be fine for the weekend but figured it was simply the belt beginning to get noisy after 88,000 miles. I had actually gone so far as to call my local Dodge dealer last week about availability of the belt and tensioner?....both at least 2 wks out.

Bearing was really complaining as we started back to Phx. xcrossing fingers and rubbing bubba's belly wasnt good enough. Coming down the steep grade just north of Black Canyon the dash chimes and sure enough....zero alternator, no power steering, no AC or anything else. Of course traffic decided to come to a crawl so that added to the experience braking with no power accessories.

In just that few minutes temps were quickly heading into the red zone so I had no choice but to kill the engine and get her pulled over. With traffic now crawling we coasted along the emergency lane till the next exit. Engine had cooled enough to give a couple minutes of run time to get safely off the highway.

Phoned the wife to bring the Infinity which I had installed a hitch years ago just in case. Phoned tow truck and then waited. Both the driver and wife showed up at the same time. Driver knew exactly what he was doing getting the SRT up on the flat bed correctly. Forked over a nice tip to him along with an address to drop it off.

Got the trailer hitched up to the Infinity and off we went. Pretty funny....picture 3 adults, 2 dogs and full trunk of gear with trailer nearly as large as the car going down the highway....! Low rider for sure!!

Now, time to find a tensioner and belt. Too bad Dodge is worthless....

Sorry to hear about your ride back hopefully you had a great time while u were up there. I bet the weather was perfect riding weather :D

I have a tensioner for an 05 RC here in stock. $62.00 plus tax were in Avondale 99th ave and I-10

Pretty sure this backyard mechanic knows the difference between crank pulley and idler arm....;) (heavy sarcasm!) Besides...Repair is done...easy enough. Went the Napa route for replacement parts.

Patrick...Dodge parts system didn't show you or anyone in Az with either part...? As always, I prefer to shop with you first. On second thought I should have called you instead. If anyone would be 'hiding' SRT parts you'd be the one!! JK

Yes, weather was perfect. Next race is in Monticello, UT so trying to get my high altitude training/practice between now and then. Might be getting too old for this stuff...nothing seems to help. :p

Are you doing the Whiplash races Chuck? I would love to do that series. Need to get back in shape first though.

No...dont care for whiplash events. www.amraracing.com as well as other regional series like that at Grinding Stone MX...mostly the EnduroXross events. Getting too old for 70-90ft triples. The more technical and longer duration (2-3hr events) I do better in. I'm mostly cherry picking what events I want to do any longer and the UT event is a National. I did well there 2yrs ago...but nice to gauge just how slow I really am to the National Pro's. One thing to watch them another to be racing side by side for about 2 sec's as they go by...;)

I've done the Speedworld GP probably 6 times. I really enjoy GP's. Last one I did was my last race before destroying my ankle. I'm going to need to go back to a surgeon for more work. It has yet to heal after two and a half years. I love off road racing. Wish it didn't destroy my body though.

You and me both brother! Currently converting my Triumph to race only...lot safer road racing then offroad racing. Not thrilled about getting back on Firebird (track sux) but knee down through a corner is still a knee down through a corner!!

btw...my sister is in the body repair business. She can take a look at you (MRI actually) or at least point you towards the better Dr's in our area.

You know Chuck, your mistake was not rubbing FatJack's belly instead..

I was able to get just the pully and bearing from autozone for about $20. no need to replace the whole tensioner.
