Well my shop electric water heater took a shit on me today.

SO

Anyone ever use one of those TANKLESS WATER HEATERS??????

If so which ones are reasonable price, respectable, warrantied, ease of install, etc?

I am seeing them all over the board pricewise on ebay. What makes em different from each other.

Really only using it for 1 sink. But may add a shower unit in upstairs.

The water heater that crapped out on me was only 10 gallons.

Thanks SHU

my buddy has one in his house and we tried and tried and that thing will not quit makin hot water hell doin laundry 10 showers in a row they are bad ass i could ask him what brand it is ....its def the route ill go when mine takes a poop...other then that i am no help to you

Yeah ive been reading on these now for the last hour or so.

It seems he probably has a bigger unit than i need. Electric use only when hot water needed.

Commercial units upwards of $5K.
Whole house units are around $1k
Single sink,shower around $300.

I noticed since im in cold climate gottah go with a 220v unit. That adds a lil $$$$. OF COURSE. DOoohhhh

Anyway your response made me laugh. I was wondering if the home units would run out. I can just see you toads running around the house turning on all the faucets sayin-
"DUDE MINES HOT.... HOWS YOURS???"
"DUDE MINES STILL HOT AS FUK.... HOWS URS NOW?????"
"STILL HOT BRO"

Was talkin to the HVAC guys here at work about that very thing, as mine in my house is starting to give problems.

They swear by the tankless both of them put them in and their other heaters were still good.....they say it will save a bunch as well as being far superior to the tank version.

I'm getting ready to get one too. Haven't done brand research yet, but I'm gonna go with what these guys chose I think.

Good luck with the process!!

From what i am reading they make MUCH MORE SENSE than the OLD tank versions.

Im not an electrician so.... but it seems the more voltage(240+ versus 110/120) you have makes for a better(quicker/higher rise in water temp) unit.

So it looks like im gunnah need an electrician also.

ALSO

No space taken up. Well maybe a foot square by 6" deep.

Ill let you know in the next couple days. If i find another 10 gallon tank for cheap ill go that route. Other wise probably going to go the tankless.

they work great in a home/shop where lots of water/long showers are needed...

for one hand wash sink...and maybe a shower, i wouldn't do it...

we use them on the higher end homes we work on/build....especially in the mountains...same as dom said..."you out, yet...no...you?":D

also used the radiant heat systems...but that's another topic;)

My dad put on in his shop to heat the floors, bathroom water, and also for hot water for the power washer. You can use the power washer constantly and it will always be hot. They are the cats ass and one will go into my next house I build.

in a case like that....it'd be perfect....

Shit now that you said that i gottah rethink this.

I totally need it for the pressure washer. I was thinking of getting a hot water pressure washer.

If i end up getting a medium sized unit i can plum it for the sink, shower and have a tap for the pressure washer.

Hell ill probably save money using the tankless as i was going to a hot pressure wash place for the cars we paint. Now we can keep it in house.

Thanks for the heads up.

I own a plumbing co. Call me 503-572-5051. One of my suppliers have a branch in Reno and I could get you a tankless or tank type heater at cost.

Just some food for thought.....Is your old water heater rusted through? You can replace the thermostats and heater elements if they've gone bad if it's an electric heater. Easy fix.
Not as familiar with the gas heaters so don't know what it takes to fix them. But if you have your heart set on a tankless, I've heard they are great.

Tankless water heaters are great, have them in my current house. If you're going to do a whole house one go for gas if that's an option for you. You'll realize more energy savings that way. For single bathroom type you might as well go electric.

He could go electric if he's got about 180 amps to power it.

I will call you here in a bit. I believe im set up for just about any situation Volts and amp wise. But i will have to check(no electric knowledge). We are running a Atlas Copco screw compressor -7.5 HP and 120psi if that helps any. LOL

I know in the other side of the shop we have a 3 phase plug near the junction box. On this side we have the air compressor running 3-20 amp switches.

Basically looking at about 3-5gpm, 240v 120 amp. I believe that is what i would need for the pressure washer, shower and sink. They wouldnt run all at the same time.

If i go smaller just for the sink and a shower it would be like 1-3 gpm. Probably the same volts n amp as we are in RENO and its fukkin cold right now. Im from So Cal so im a cold weather pussy. Freakin hate it.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the help.

I WAS going to go with a tankless electric water heater.

BUT

At the last minute a buddy of mine who has a plumbing business called. He was at Lowes grabbing some pipe and came across 2 water heaters slashed 80% off. He grabbed a 60 gallon one for $120.

I went on down and grabbed a 30 gallon for $60.

So im replacing my 10 gallon with a brand new 30 gallon for 1/4 the price.

GOT LUCKY.

Off to play some cards.

Sounds like its too late but check the 9th picture. It shows the pump for the power washer and how compact everything is. Sure beats a big ass hotsy for what we do with it anyway, much cheaper too.

JESUS H Christ. NICE GARAGE.

Very well thought out. Nice pre plan. LOL

Yeah i see you really went the cheap route. Hehe

Yeah for under a $100 bucks were set. I only have 1 sink, toilet and puttin in a low pressure shower now.

We are going to put a spiggot and attach it to under the sink. That way we can use hot water for the pressure washer. Surprisingly the pressure washer uses very little water.

I think you made a good choice. I was in the process of an upgrade and the tankless CAN have a ton of problems, a lot of factors involved like cold climate, how hard your water is, gas vs electric, circulating loop.....
I went away from the idea due to cost vs savings. The life expectancy might be ten years which will negate savings if you had to replace. If you have hard water they can go to shiznit quick because of how quickly the superheat the water and leave deposits...never mind the brains of the thing...a computer, have you had the same computer for 10 years:dontknow:
