For all of our Jewish Brothers and Sisters (if any  :dontknow: ).... Happy Hanukkah! :) The festival of lights! :burnout: The celebration starts today (at sundown) and continues thru the 12th. :)

"Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, Who sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to kindle the Hanukkah lights."

"Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, Who performed wondrous deeds for our ancestors, in those days, at this moment."

"Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, Who has kept us in life, sustained us, and brought us to this moment."

"We light these lights for the miracles and the wonders, for the redemption and the battles that you made for our forefathers, in those days at this season, through your holy priests. During all eight days of Hanukkah these lights are sacred, and we are not permitted to make them serve except for to look at them in order to express thanks and praise to Your great Name for your miracles, Your wonders and Your salvations."

Shalom. :) ;)

Hanukkah means "re-dedication," and it commemorates the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem after its desecration by foreign forces. The celebration also reaffirms the continuing struggle to live by God's commandments and to lead Jewish lives.

Re-dedication is a wonderful concept...regardless of your particular religion or for that matter for those of us who don't claim religion but do celebrate spirituality.

We all can learn from our Jewish brothers and sisters.

My neighbors are Jewish (well half Jewish) and they invited us over for dinner. We just got back. It was really neat to experience their traditions. They also just recently adopted a boy who happens to be African American. So they get to celebrate Kwanzaa also. I suggested combining them all into one big party called HansKwanzMas.

:) It's wonderful, I think, when all of those different religions/ideals/traditions can live together in harmony. :) It warms my heart! I also think it's wonderful, that they invited you into their home to experience their great tradition. :)

Oh, and I thought it was ChristmaKwanzUkka? :dontknow: :D :p

I live in Military Housing located off base. It is like living in a neighborhood in the 50's. Everyone looks out for each other, we have no problem telling someone else's kid when they are wrong and we party every weekend (Don't have to worry about DUI).
