Do you know of any deals for some solid state laptop drives? Thinking of getting the CarPc up and running again.

Scooby, I have worked with and supported hard drives in a Vibration environment for over 30 years. I can truthfully tell you that if it vibrates it WILL fail. I don't really care how good the specs on the Shock Test of a normal Hard Drive are, it will Fail.

The Read/Write Heads "Float" above the Disk Platter less than 1/2 the thickness of a Human Hair. The Platter is rotating at or over 7200 RPMs. One small bump or vibration can cause the Read/Write Head to come in contact with the Disp Platter and it is Game Over..

Solid State Drives (SSD) are the way to go, there are NO moving parts and Vibration is NOT a factor. Their Only Two Down Sides right now are Price and Access Speed. Access Speed is not bad but is nowhere near a "Normal" Hard Drive.

So if you can afford it and don't mind an extra 1/2 second in access time then SSD is the Correct Answer... :)

These are not opinions these are Facts.... :)

i guess it depends what you do with the car.
mine has worked for over a year, and the other people that do the same job as me have been using laptops for many years.
cops have been using the Panasonic toughbook for many years as well.
depends what you want to do with it thou. if you want tons of music and videos, ssd is not the way to go. unless you want to spend a ton of cash.
