I sent a letter to the Tax Commissioner here and told them that they needed

to lower my property tax by 30k, thinking I would have a fight on my hands.

Just notified that they complied with no other action on my part.:D

I guess sometimes you can fight city hall.

Please accept this letter as my official notice that my property has been

over valued by your office.

The only reason I am still living here is because a real estate agent friend looked

at the place and said I would be lucky to get $------- for the place, but I

need $--------, so it looks like I'll be here awhile.

I want you to know that I am not someone trying to be cheap.

My granfather was the mayor of the city I grew up in and I remember him

discussing this subject. When someone complained to him about their

valuation he would ask them if they would sell him the property for the same

price, (which resulted in most of the people withdrawing their complaint).

Bottom line is he would find out what the price that the person would take for

their place was and adjust the value,(sometimes higher). Makes pretty good

sense to me.

Anyway, I would take $------- to settle this matter, even though for $------

I would be out in three day's and even throw in the furniture.

Please let me know when my appeal hearing will be held.

Sincerely,

.

That can be a double edged sword, depending on your tax rate...

You get them to devalue your house to save money on taxes, and then get it thrown in your face come offer time when you have it up for sale...

Just plain sucks.

This subprime shit and its fallout is unbelievable...

The amount they lowered it to is still 20-30% more than what I could sell the place for at this time, (Probably why they didn't fight).:dontknow:

dude why would you be concerned about a blown engine when your property taxes CAN be lowered by $30k...what the heck are your property axes $100k a year

I think he meant lowering the value of the house by 30K. Not paying 30K less.
