Here's another one of my favorites, a 1978 Brabham BT46B, aka The Fan Car. It was introduced in 1978 and won the Swedish GP, its only victory. The vaned assembly on the rear is a fan which drew air out from underneath the vehicle. In turn a large amount of down force was created. When brought to competition, FIA believed the team's argument that the fan was for cooling purposes. The car, after the win was removed from competition and FIA smartened up, quick, they banned it, I believe, after the Swedish win. This car reminds me of some of the antics Smokey Yunick pulled in NASCAR.

That is a cool concept. Too bad it was straight up cheating. I love when someone takes advantage of loop holes in the rules but this seems like clear cut cheating! Still, a very intelligent use of air velocity to gain an advantage.

interpretation of the rules. the very heart of racing:rock: :burnout:  :burnout:  :burnout:

I thought you guys might like this too. Take a '70 Hemi Challenger and turn it into a balls out road race car, yah, that sounds like fun! Cool vids and a good and informative story too. Check it out:

Cool video, thanks. An interesting piece of racing folklore: the Ferrari team was rumored, at the time, to have purchased "a vast quantity" of the 10 inch tires that the P34 ran in an effort to prevent Tyrell's team from competing. I guess that was Enzo's way of saying "take that". The P34 had promise -- too bad the FIA thought otherwise.
