I drove the truck for a while this morning after the header install to make sure everything was ok. Stopped at the auto parts store, and when I got back in the truck, the shifter couldn't find a gear. Finally I got it to go into drive.
Got home, and looked under the truck and found that the shifter cable was resting on the header; there was about a 7" section that was melted pretty badly. So I called Stinker--since he had the service manual on disk, to see if he could tell me how to get the cable out.
Rather than tell me, he and Joanne drive an hour and a half to my house with the disk, and another shifter cable! If you remember, he put a floor shifter in Joanne's truck, and he was no longer using the stock shifter cable. He helped me install it, and the truck is back to normal. Much, much appreciation to a good man!
There are several bad things about all of this: I now owe Stinker; he knows where I live, and he's met my wife....not a good combination!
