Headers!!! Are they worth the expense?

My opinion is it depends on your budget and long-term plan. I know I'm staying normally aspirated but I want the most horsepower I can get on stock internals. I didn't think about dollars versus horsepower when I bought my Belanger long-tubes, Belanger hi-flows, and Magnaflow cat-back. I know they flow better than the stock system so I got them. Same applies to the Billet Throttle Body I have ordered on the group buy from Sean. I believe it flows better than stock so I bought it. I expect that by March of 2009 I'll do heads and cam. At that point I want best flow in and best flow out so as opportunities present themselves I'm jumping in. At some point I'll get an aftermarket intake manifold or have my stock one ported. Nope, can't make a dollar to horsepower comparison and I don't even try.

Develop a long-term endpoint, identify steps along the way to get to the endpoint, choose wisely and start the trip.

This is a perfect answer to your question.....

gonna stay N/A.....?.....gonna do the heads some day....?....then you will need the headers anyway....

do you have a dyno sheet?

First of all if you bought a 40,000.00 pickup truck to go fast you got the worst possible vehicle. Square as a brick and 1 1/2 times heavier than a car. That being said dollar per horsepower is irrelevant at this point. I bought the headers for looks and slight horsepower advantage, Stagell pcm was best overall performance gain. Some guys on hear keep whining about horsepower per dollar and they already have over 60,000 dollars in a brick and complain about another 2,000 like it is their lunch money fund. On the other hand you can buy an old muscle car, total investment of 25,000 and go just as fast. Headers do help when tuned for them. If they did not help all these crazy people with RACE CARS would not buy them!!!

Get the moapr long tube kit with the cat-less mid pipes best fabrication hands down, power is probally on par with other long tube kits.

You can't say things like that on this forum!
This is the professional race/drag truck forum where stock trucks with no more than a Magnaflow routinely take out new Corvettes.
And the serious guys are always looking to get that extra 5 thousand's of a second off their 60' times by spending $5 or $10k on a single part.
Which for these trucks could be just a set of headers.

Man,show the proper respect!
This is serious race stuff :elefant:

Yeah and some of us gave $50k for our fast trucks!

actually it is your Boss's 9.....as opposed to the the 4.5 she usually gets from you....:D

In our testing we have found the Bellanger long tube headers with high flow cats are good for about 25-30rwhp from 4000rpm up. The Bassani headers are good for about 15hp from 3000rpm up. Running with ony the primary Cat is good for about 10hp peak (off road use only). These numbers are for NA trucks only.

My N/A truck makes 535 rwhp and 566 rwtrq (SAE corrected) WITH HEADERS.

My truck also runs quicker ETs than several F/I trucks (see timeslip section).

Go buy the headers, lol.

The truth hurts sometimes:D I have been drag racing for 30 years and there is ALWAYS someone faster and with deeper pockets! You have to set a personal goal of what YOU want to accomplish and stick with it.
