Yea so I finally saw a Black QC SRT10 as I was coming off base tonight. He was already on hwy 24 as I was merging from the on ramp coming off base. I got over in front of him, not knowing that it was an SRT10 at first. I initially thought :hmmmm: that it was a :hahaha: "Poser" :slug: because when he saw me merge onto 24 he slowed way down. I am pretty damn good at reading people since I do it for a living, so I will apply my skills to this scenario...which to me said "Damn a Lightning I better back off so he doesn't show me up."
Well he finally got up with me on Western Blvd, three lanes accross...he was on the far left I was on the right. My wife said that he was staring at my L as he passed by. However, that is when I saw that it was an actual SRT10 and not a poser:puke: ...I hate those types. Anyhow, he didn't act like an ass or anyhting so he seemed like a pretty cool guy. I did nothing to provoke him during the whole time because I don't act like that on the road...not cool, unless the other guy is asking for it:thefinger: . If I didn't have to get to the store so fast and back home I would have followed and chatted with him. Unfortunately, there was WAAAAY too much traffic to even run...oh well. Another time...
Here are my honest feelings about the SRT-10...I wanted one when they first came out... until I saw the price tag...after it had been jacked up. I love the looks of the truck, it looks aggressive and like it would haul ass. Assuming that with a 500HP motor in it, however, I was somewhat let down when I test drove one through a road course. I was not too thrilled with the overall experience, it just didn't feel like 500 horses should ;) . This was after I had my Lightning for about three years. I am very happy with my choice because I could afford it...plus I got a killer deal on eBay...$28,000 BRAND NEW!!! Yea, for some reason the salesman that sold it to me no longer works at the Ford dealership where I bought it:rofl:...can you say fired. How do I know, well he had FOUR Lightning's on ebay in Michigan that all sold for $26k - $28K. In the end, I realize that they are just trucks and have a lot of wieght that plays a part in the horsepower game. But, they are both kick ass performance vehicles that have nothing else like it in the world. Ahhh sorry for the long post guys and gals.

man, we woulda prolly had a post about an L kill on the boards here if yall got to run!!!!!!!!! LOL

If you are ever up my way drop me a line, I'll run ya ;) I paid $35k brand new :D

:boxing: I hate you.... lol j/k Nice find. I was very lucky when I got mine... plus the SRT-10s wern't out yet. What are your times? I plan on getting to the track after I lower the rear a little.

I especially enjoy showing up an L on the freeway. I think I posted last week about an encounter where an L gave in after a short try... Ah here it goes...

http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4235

I like the Lightning though I have seen many of them around here. But seeing so many make me especially like my #1900 because anywhere you go SRT-10 spells RARE, oh and mine was 37k with TT&L included. I wouldn't mind buying an L at 26-28k. But I have my sight set on the new Challenger when they come available.

I havent had a clean run at the track in awhile...ran a 13.0 in 96 degree heat about 25 rwhp ago. Have some Caltracs in the box and "should" have a spare set of calipers in a week or so to grind down so I can fit some slicks on :D

Soooo, its hard to say what I can run with the traction mods in these cooler temps ...but I have a good idea ;)

Either way, there are a few bad ass 'L''s in my neighborhood that run in the 9's to 11's...So regardless of my 520 plus rwhp ...nothing to brag about around here :dontknow:

03' .... Thank you for sharing the story. The ability to make us feel as if we were there was very comforting as I watch the snow flurries out the front window....damn 8 months of cold weather in the Ohio Valley is on it's way.

I like L's, if they had a back seat I would have bought one. But I got my 05 QC with 700 miles for 32K:D I was happy that it ran a 13.5 (100% stock). Which isnt bad for a big ole 4 door truck. I am happy with my purchase!!

No prob... I can paint the picture pretty well. Seems like a few of you got a good deal on your trucks. I gope to run one of you guys some day, just really need to get my suspension worked out. I too have been looking at teh new Challenger. That things is gonna be sweet!! I think of all the "Retro" styled cars that have come out or are coming out, that one is the closest I have seen that screams muscle car! I only wished that Dodge did the same with the Charger.

You guys are right about the "Rareness", I have seen about 15 Lightnings here at Camp Lejeune....three years ago I could only count about 3 including mine and my buddies. Now I have seen about 3 SRT-10's around...and a lot of those damn Daytona's WTF?!?! Those are like the Ford 5.4 Boss...marketing gimmick for a popular old name...quite a let down if you ask me.

Well, he hasnt ran as he just finished the rebuild but was running 10.6's before the motor went. His name is Ronnie and lives in Fayetteville, NC.

So, projected 9.9's ;)

Yea.... Ronnie has a BEAST of a Truck. I can't wait to see what he puts down.

i have a 90 454SS and i also have a 502SS...i will see what they could do in a run?
by the way, i always loved Chevy's (still do). But when i saw this beast that i got i feel in love..the L's are great truck, but i don't think i will get one?
Wife's Ex-husband has one, and he never wanted to race?
i told him we could run them for a sticker? if he win's i will put a sticker that say's my Chevy suck's. and if he loses (which i think he will) he would put a sticker that read MY FORD SUCK's......it never happen? oooooohhhhh well.

The L is a hell of a truck. A cheap pully upgrade and there you have it. I would never get one though. TheY look like a regular truck....I think that the L being a performance truck should stand out when next to reg. Fords!! The 10 has a sexy/intimidating look at the same time. I fell in love with it when i first saw it on an episode of "Trucks". And why is it that alot of L owners dont like to play or even just talk??:dontknow: There is a few here in town and about four just here in my neighborhood (2 down the road & around the corner), I tried talking to some of them and they stay really quiet and short answers then see ya l8tr.......Long story short, I LOVE MY TRUCK!!!!:D

I had a '99L. It was a fun truck for the five years I owned it, and if Ford offered a manual trans, I might still own it! For me, the 6 speed in the SRT was a big selling point. I was tired of auto boxes.

I had a few mods on my L - 3# pulley (Stock Tune), K&N, Line-mod valve,and a Magnaflow cat-back = 13.25 @ 103 w/ a 1.87 60'.

With the current mods on my SRT, I feel it will run 110+mph now in the 1/4 (probably mid 12's). Just gotta get the chance to do it. However, I DID recently find out that it will run neck and neck with an '06 LS2 Vette, up to 140.;):p A stock (or close to stock) SRT definitely runs stronger on the top end than a comparable Lightning!:)

Two different trucks, but both are fun IMO.

That's funny I know a lot of L owners with big mouths around here. Of course that's after they have thousands of dollars invested in the motor. One I saw had a Whipple supercharger and the owner had such a big mouth you could've parked a couple SRT's and a pair of shoes in it.

Are you with MARSOC, FMTU or MSOB? I thought I remember that you said were one of the "lomg-haired" Marines.
