OK, I know Uniboy is asking about 488 or 513's. I would like people to chime in on the plus's or minus's 456 or 488's. I do no freeway driving. I never use 6th gear. I do not plan on SC.

I spoke to the dealer and they said the install would not be a problem. About a five hour job, he claimed. Does that seem correct?

Marc have you ever run at the track with your 4"88's? I am just afraid I might run out of 4th gear being that @ 6k rpm top speed would be 110. Shifting into fifth is outta the question.

Ah shit, too many decisions here.

Yeah 5 hours it what they charge you, yet an experienced heavy line will get em' done for ya time wise in bout 2-3hours. regardless you pay for experience. Oh and if you dont use 6th and dont do any freeway driving shit, i would just get the 4.88s

Hey Patrick,
I am not going to worry about running out of 4th gear at 110. If I could do that I would probably be doing a mid 12 and I would be happy with that on a NA motor.

Patrick,

I have not run my 4:88's on the track. But I really don't think you will hit 110 MPH in the 1/4 mile with a NA truck. But if it worrys you that much you can always have DC performance re program your computer to bump up the Rev limiter to 6300 RPM. I am pretty sure they can??:dontknow:

;) ... 4.56:1/is your gear. When you decide to run slicks at the track, you will have to go to a smaller rim size, then you'll have your 4.88:1/ratio.

Quick

I run the 4.56s and I am very happy. However remember that the more gear you put in (the higher the number) the faster your drive shaft will be spinning. If you never go over say 120 or so its no big deal, but if you ever get up to high speeds you might have to do something with you drive shaft. Especially if you go with 5.13 gears your drive shaft will be spinning way faster than it was designed for. Just something to think about.

Bill.

With 5.13 Gears whats 6th gear RPM @ 75 MPH? Just curious because it would be impractical for everyday freeway driving, however bumper to bumper wouldn't really matter :).

@/5.13:1 you will be shifting alot more in traffic. in my '04 I shift every 10/mph. (i.e. 1st @ 10/mph-2nd @ 20/mph-3rd @ 30/mph, this keeps her right at 2000/rpm's or below a little 1800/rpm's)
Just a little easier on the gas..... and not as much shifting as if you had 4.88:1 or 5.13:1.

Quick

I feel as if my truck will do at least 110mph as it sits now, and I'm still considering a lightwieght flywheel/clutch and BOOM's Throttle Body/Spacer.
For now, I just gotta get to the strip and prove it!

Basically, Patrick, it all depends on YOU!
How often do you plan on racing?
How many more mods do you plan on doing to your truck?
And how much does it mean to YOU to make the most of those mods?

IMO, 4.56's are YOUR best choice for BOTH the street and track. Especially if you're going to do those catless mids and a Flash.:D God I wish you lived a bit closer so you could take my truck for a beat around the block - I think you'd like the way it runs!

Well fellas, I just got back from testing out the speed/Rpm with the 4:88's at 110 MPH I was at 5500 Rpm. Don't know why that is since all the calculations we have heard said it should be at 6000 RPM??:dontknow: :dontknow:

As they say, the truth is in the road test!!:D

With my set up there shouldn't be any trouble at the track!! IMO, for whatever thats worth??:p

Thanks for the offer Mike. Being that I may be able someday to put some DR on there, going 456 seems like a better way. I do want to add some more mods over the next year, catless mids, flash, TB etc... In reality I cant really loose. I got a SRT10, whatever gear I get , its gonna be blast to drive......ie better than what I have now!!

Thanks for posting again guys!!

patrick
