Hello,

Just got a new QC SRT10 and really love the truck. I plan on keeping the truck stock for a couple of reasons...unforeseen future warranty issues and resale value years from now. With that being said, I sold my old truck and took off of all of my accessories one being a set of very expensive high quality stainless steel polished 3" Hi-Flo cats that are street legal. Question is do you think it is worth it to install just these Hi-Flo cats only with no other supporting mods? Others on these SRT10 forums have recommended that I go with a PCM reflash only & no other mods if I am concerned about adding bolt on parts that may not add much horsepower and take away the stock parts & components on the truck. So here is my dilema keeping in mind I would like to keep the truck stock but on the other hand I have these $600 hi-Flo cats sitting in the garage. I have young children in the truck with me so and talking on the hands free Bluetooth setup so I do NOT want to change to headers, cat back systems, or aftermarket mufflers as I honestly like the truck quiet not having to talk over the kids and repeating everything three times due to drone. Help me out with some feedback...based on my concerns which would number would you choose?

1. Keep the truck stock for warranty concerns...don't change anything.

2. Install the H-Flo cats, keep the OEM cats for the future if needed and don't do any other mods for warranty concerns. If I choose #2, will I get any HP gains if I don't do any other mods like a PCM reflash or custom exhaust?

3. Install the H-Flo cats, keep the OEM cats for the future if needed and consider a mild PCM reflash and leave the rest of the truck alone. If I choose #3, has any body ever had warranty claims denied for adding just Hi-Flo cats and/or a PCM reflash?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Thanks!!!

Some One will chime in here, but to my understanding it is illegal to deny warranty claims on the bases of aftermarket alone. If a part meets form fit and function, I do not believe the waranty can be denied.

Heck, even Mopar makes hop up parts for our truck. Your local dealer will install them.

Check out this thread. http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45 It discusses the laws that protectyour right to use aftermarket parts.

My choice would be #3. If you are concerned about the stock status, get a complete PCM and just swap it out. Then it can be made stock in a few minutes.

Enjoy the Ride,
Dale

If the warranty and a quiet exhaust is important to you, I'd just go with the Stage2 PCM Flash. Period.

If you purchase a new PCM with the flash, then you can simply swap the stocker back in if you need to take a trip to the dealer. 3 bolts and 3 plugs - 10 minute job literally - and it makes an incredible difference from what QC owners say!

Maybe try to sell those Hi-Flow Cats on one of these forums?

Given your preset parameters I would cuncur that the PCM only mod is your best route. You seem concerned about noise level and changing to those high flow cats WILL make your truck noticeably louder.

JMHO.

I actually contacted Dodge direct and there response was if the modification can be proven to be the problem then they would deny warranty however Exhaust, Air intakes and other small mods like that do not justify denying warranty.
Anyway that was what I was told.:D

I really appreciate all of the quick replies...thank you! I already had someone inquire about the Hi-Flo cats. It seems as though some are getting big gains with the DC reflash, some have had said close to 65-75 HP? If that mod is anywhere close to those numbers then that is way more than I would expect but again it is a V-10. Adding these cats would no doubt add some HP but as to how much, the possible noise/drone increase, and red flags for warranty concerns I think I will just sell them. Here are some pics of the cats before they were installed on my old truck. I have them priced at $300 plus shipping. These cats are much better than the Dynatech cats. The Dynatech cats are made of a ceramic brick with very tight squares the exhaust has to flow through. My cats are the much more expensive all stainless steel (inside and out) type. The interior of these is a corrugated roll of stainless similar to what you find in a layer of cardboard. End result is a much better flow and a longer life. They are in excellent condition with no problems and have only been on the truck 1,300 miles.

Thanks!!!

If your concerned about the noise level, you can always get off the gas pedal...I might be interested in those cats, what is the make and model??

If warranty bothers you that much either keep the truck totally stock or probably the better idea is sell it and buy a GM product with a much better warranty, dodge warranty sux to no end whether you mod it or not.

The flash will get you about 75-80 RWHP and 100 TRQ. However those gains are not max power. By that I mean at 3500 RPM you will be getting 80RWHP and 100 TRQ more then a stock QC. The flash is a quick easy mod and if you carry the stock PCM in the truck with you then all you need is a screwdriver and a few minutes to swap if necessary for warranty work or towing. You will gain some power from the hi-flows but not much. The biggest gain between the cats and the flash will be the flash.
