I posted under “Tranny and Cruise Problemâ€￾ earlier. Really in need of help. The check engine light comes on and the code is 0740 which is the torque converter unlocking. Put the truck in cruise and the throttle full open for half a second and then stabilizes but pulses 300-500 rpm, as if you are pressing on the foot feed and letting off. Changed all three solenoids out twice. Seemed to work for a while but started again. Here’s the problem. I clear the code and the thing starts working perfectly. 200 to 300 miles and the light comes on again and the cruise starts gyrating again. I pull over, clear the fault code and all is well again. By the way, even with the 0740 code on the torque converter is not unlocking. Something else seems to be causing the code to come on and then triggers the cruise control problem. Any help or advice will be most welcome. :dontknow:

Hmmm, really suprised no one here has had this problem. :confused: Might try another site or even break down and talk with a dealer. Will report what I find.
thanks for the look.

Sorry shorty, I have no experience with the autos in our trucks. I can get you the Chrysler diagnostic procedure for the code but that's about it.

Light on again after 250 miles and cruise messed up. Turned the light off and went back to stock tune. Cruise still acts up in stock tune with light off so will go back to 93 octane tune in the morning and see what happens. When light is off in 93 tune everything works fine but when the light comes on the cruise goes to pot. It is electrical but way over my head. Bumfuzeled to say the least. I really hate to pull over every so often and erase the code. By the way, code 0740 is the problem code for the converter lock up but today 0158 popped up.

158 is your right rear O2 sensor.

How does your truck shift under WOT? Does it hang going into the 2nd gear from first? If so it could be your valve body is not operating properly, improper pressure and something maybe clogged up from debris. Looks like that code is thrown from a variety of things though.

Also states this condition is set after the following:
This DTC will set if the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) can not achieve the desired engine RPM drop when the TCC Solenoid is near the maximum duty cycle after three consecutive test failures.

Not sure how much of an RPM drop the lock gives you though. Would have been nice if that tid bit was included

This is from the service manual for possible causes of this fault code.

TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL LOW OR CONTAMINATED
WORN OR DAMAGED REACTION SHAFT, INPUT SHAFT OR INPUT SHAFT SEALS
BLOCKED OR LEAK IN THE TCC HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT IN THE VALVE BODY
TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID
TORQUE CONVERTER

TCC = Torque Converter Clutch

Hope you get it figured out.
