Help with 4.88 gears

Looking for 4.88 gears, anyone done this recently? How are the results, price and where to get them without taking out another loan.

Unitrax sells the gears...............if I remember correctly $350 or so. Talk with Devin, tell him you want the bearing kit as well.

Have a qualified tech install them. Dana rear ends are a little different than the average gear. I had my dealer install them.........cost about $300 to $400 I think.

Your truck will feel so much lighter and quicker. You will shift a lot more. I use 5th gear in traffic now at 45 to 50 mph. Your mpg will go down a little...........but its worth it for the fun factor.

i would certainly not recommend a DIY.. install... have them and read about it but would not daire to do it myself...think you need some experience with those tolerances on gears and bearings....

I have had rear gears changed before in another vehicle, and you guys are correct, if it is not set up right, then you just flushed your money down the crapper. Thanks for the input.

You could always get in touch with Stinker on here and go for the DTS whole ball of wax..any gearing, lots of options..etc..3500.00 or so..Depending on what your plan is of course..

yeah, but Stinker is either dead from his nose tampon , ... or got caught in his springs.... just let us hope the best for him..... :dontknow:

I know he was a couple a pints low on blood after the nose tampon incident, so he is probly drinking his way back to health..Said he is going to the doc tommorow to get it fixed up..I too hope he is ok..
Sorry to whore thread 04moneypit..Just giving you another option to think about..
Some guys will tell you to have some cryo work done on the gears as well..I know of a couple who swear by it..No problems after cryo with 6-650 hp or so..As Prof says..Plan the work, and work the plan..you gotta start mods with an end result in mind..
