Help with designing a sound system.

I have a 05 QC and I'm wanting to redo the entire system. I'm set on my speakers setup. 6.5" components up front, 6.5" coax in back powered on a 4 ch amp. But I'm at a loss when it comes to sub woofers. I'm not familiar with sound wave and air space in a truck. Ive always had my subs in the trunk in a pretty beefy box. Any suggestions on some subs, sizes, and boxes. I found a couple boxes that will give me 7" of mounting depth, which is enough depth and air space for 2 Alpine 10" type-r's, or 2 JL W3's. But I was wondering if doing 2 beefy subs like this would be over kill? Any brand or setup suggestions would be much appreciated. Maybe some pics?

JL w7 are awsome cant go wrong with them, i have a 10, but want to go to a 7 or 8 in to get more snare type bass, jl audio are some of the best subs though..:rock:

W7 hits super responsive and very nice.....I have a 10" w3 in the factory QC box and it thumps very nicely (sounds like 2 of the stock infinity 10's)

Ive looked at countless sub boxes that fit underneath the back seat, and it seems that 7" is about the maxim mounting depth you can get with out modifying the height of the back seat. So I think my goal is to get the biggest, nastiest, loudest sub I can that needs less then 7" of depth and about 1 cu. ft. of air space. One beefy ten should be enough in that cab right? Most of my music is rock, Metal, Screamo so I want a sub that is very LOUD but has extremely TIGHT bass.

For what you listen to I'd go with the more powerful 8" over the weaker 10. Use two or three. If there was room for a JL W6 10" that would be the way i'd go. A 10" W3 isn't going to be responsive enough. I like 10's for a mix of music, 12's for more rap, 8's for rock, especially metal.

He's right....an 8" w7 will sound superb for what you listen to...it will hit every single beat on point....a 10" has got some decent response and a little deeper bass, the 12" is good for long tone bass and deep bass....
The 10" suited me well for what I listen to rock/rap
Go to a good JL Audio dealer by you and they should have all the subs set up and you can play the music you listen to and decide on what to go with:rock:

I Sent you a PM MoparMan.

It is true that smaller subs sound better with rock music in mind but...........the Heavy 8 (8" W7) is designed for large excursion (alot of long strokes) This is not what you need for rock music. Rap yep, all day long. I used to have 2 12" JL W7's in a Volkswagen Golf. Hit hard as hell (148 dB) but I mainly listen to rap and country. Don't get me wrong any sub will play rock but some subs "get behind" on the music curve and massively distort some tones to catch back up. (Might not make sense but if you play a sub in the frequency area that it is not meant for then a great sub becomes sloppy).

My recommendation would be to do 2 10's. I recommend 2 10" Kicker CVR's. They are dual voice coil and have a short stroke making them perfect for rock music. I do agree that buying a probox is the way to go for MORE bass, after all the box matters alot more than the type of sub you put in it (I know doesn't make sense but harmonically its true)

If you want something no one else has try MB Quart subs. They are ridiculously crisp and clear and are designed for the least distortion possible.

No matter what you choose, I say go with 2 10's. It will keep the sound even in the cab and prevent any one sided bass tones.
