Hey all..

Just got news from my dealership that they want to rape me for needing some repairs to my 04 Hemi ram.

Thanks to our wonderful members, I am hoping to get parts shipped and do the work myself... Well, some of it.... ;)

Question I have is this... I have to replace my ac compressor and serpentine belt, along with the tensioner pulley. I have never done an ac swap before and not sure of how involved it is. Looks fairly simple since I am removing the pulley anyway.

Is there anything I need to know before I attempt this work? Do I need to drain the ac system first? Or do I just need to get a new charge when finished?

Also replacing the PCV valve. That, if I cant do, I should stay away from sharp objects... :(

Anything you guys can offer would be appreciated.

Thanks
Scott

if your changing the compressor your SUPPOSED to reclaim the freon and use it again. any ac shop can do this for you.

most of it is just bolt on but the ac needs a special machine or tool to recyle and replace.

why do you need the tensioner? is it squeeking?

tensioner is not moving and appears that the spring is seized. Belt is hopping around without tension on it.

I dont really need to use the ac since the weather is cooler now but the squealing sounds like a ringwraith from Lord of the Rings. The clutch on the unit seems to have gone bad and because it is squealing so much on the belt to spin, the belt is getting ruined. Only matter of time before belt snaps. Will ost pics in a few.

You need not only the legal reclaim equipment but also the equipment to vacuum the system and put the freon in and attach the fittings...you might install the compressor but not hook it up..then you could take it to a cert AC tech to finish..

So this is the condition of the belt, ac compressor, and tensioner pulley.

Belt is fraying on the edges as you can see. Not alot of tension on the pulley at all.
Got tell you,if your ac compressor is gone, more than likely so is the freon but still safer to have it removed professionally and you need to replace your dryer and orifice :dontknow: tube, what is the prob with the system.

We are in this business - evacute the system(remove the refrigerant) do your repairs yourself- all are very easy to do- you are looking at 90-120 bucks to have your local a/c guy do this. where do you live exactly- we may have a dealer in your area.
