Picked up John Mayer's new CD CONTINUUM. This boy is working the guitar pretty good. He has done well so far. Might be a long term player like Eric. Still a little raw but he got moves and a voice. Good music.

The only thing Gheyer then John Mayer is...........................:D

Mikey, You need to be gagged and locked up in a cage somewhere.....;)

Wal,

I went to UTube and sampled some of his stuff... Obviously, I've no idea who he is.... I watched and listened to a few of his tunes, both acoustic and electric style.... He uses contemporary playing styles, using mostly his fingers in the right hand.... it's real mellow, sexy stuff..... He attracts a mostly female audience and they're all eating it up...

Guys will buy his stuff to put on when a lady comes over..... (Personally I prefer some old Martin Denny jungle shit...like "Quiet Village" or something like that....but, at my age, Lynette would probably just laugh, tell me to, "turn that shit off and get yer ass into bed, Conan....")

Whe she leaves, it goes in the "Screw Juice" bin.... for easy access.

I'm sure he's very successful from a commercial perspective... and money get's the girls every time.... He both sings and plays..... a very marketable commodity.......... Add his relationship with Jessica Simpson and you get the envy of alott'a people....

With the way music is going now, I seriously doubt that another Eric Clapton will come along for along time.... After all, how many 20 yr olds listen to 65 yr old guys play anymore..... That's way too Old School for most of them....and you are (whom and) what you emulate....

The kid is a nice commercial talent who gets more pussy than the humane society... But I seriously doubt that he'll write 15 chapters in the lead guitarists book of patented riffs...... such as the likes of Eric, BB King, Hendrix, Carlos or Stevie Ray....

Thanks for the introduction.... At least now I won't sound like a complete idiot when someone asks me about John Mayer.....

I always thought JM was just another singer songwriter guy whom got lucky with his mellow tunes............then I saw him on some live award show. Wow I had no idea he had those chops. He has quite a bit of SRV in him. His music is a little mellow for my tastes but he has talent and I like to see guys that can actually play get their just rewards.

I think D is correct. Its gonna be difficult for any player to really make a mark in guitar playing like the some of the people in the past, Clapton, Van Halen, The Edge, SRV, Hendrix..........those guys really found their own tone and defined their careers around that tone. There are lots of copy cats and hell I wish I could play as good as some of those copy cats.......but to really define a new style/signature and inspire millions to want play like that. Well thats talent......and the music industry has no time to define that kind of talent. They want sales now period. They have no patience anymore.

Hell yeah Mikey! The Partridge Family! I used to have a songbook for them, wish I still had it, bet it would be a good ebay item.

I think I love you, so what am I so afraid of? hehehehehehe

He does a Hendrix tune "Bold as Love" on this CD. He works it pretty well. He did a blues tour a couple of years ago just doing that kind of music and did well at it but the big ticket music is the pop stuff. This CD has him working it both ways.

I have great hopes for JM. Thought I'd run it by the "D", the technical advisor. Thanks Black1. Without starting a new thread, David Gilmour's "On an Island" is another put it on and play it till the end CD. Hard to find music like that today. Enjoy your music.

I reallyliked David Gilmour's Blue Murder from a few years ago..

David is a great talent... But he is an established musician with YEARS under his belt with Pink Floyd. John Mayer is still young and new.... not really in the same league, IMO. :dontknow:
