Because trying to get the stock pipes off has been a major PITA! I spent 2 hours trying to get 1 bolt out, and I still can't get it. I have been very complimentary of Dodge on how easy the truck is to work on, but I have no idea what they were thinking when they put those little retaining clips on the nuts that hold the pipe to the exhaust manifold. Going tomorrow to have all 6 of those little bastards cut off!

Good luck and dont get too frustrated. It will be worth it in the end.:burnout:

Yes its worth it, and yes those POS clips that bolt the Mids to the Manifolds SUCK!

Hey Bro. I have done 2 sets of these.
I spray the bolts down with WD-40 and let them sit for half hour or so. Then use and air ratchet and long extension from underneath to spin them off quickly. Both times they spun right off for me with no problems. :dontknow:

yeah wd40 or liquid wrench is the waY TO GO spray and let set.....but yeah those bolts for the mids are the hardest of all the exhaust bolts to get!

If you can't get them out...

Spray them with WD40... let them sit 10 mins... Get a pair of vice grips and lock onto the nut and retaining clips and they come right out.... took me seriously like 5 mins to get all 6 bolts out... lmao

Ahh, brings back memories  Those clips suck, especially if they break.

Mids are worth it

Now......Did you guys have to remove the tranny cross member in order to break the stock mid pipes from the catback? Or were you able to wiggle it enough to remove the two sections?

Well, on the RC, you have to loosen everything up on the cat back section. You can then slide (beat with a 2x4 and large hammer) the catback off of the mids. Then they are pretty easy to remove after that....

yup..thats whats I did...

as for the clips..when they get bent to hell, get a 17mm closed-end and it will hold it, then a 15mm to put the nuts back on WITHOUT the clips...

The heck with it. Mids are for sale.

Damn man, just take it to a exhaust shop, they will slap them on for $100 or less. If they are catless you will have to find a "friendly" shop. Just tell them it is a track only truck.

Ok,
I've got the passenger side pipe on the truck!:star: But the sim does not fit into the stock connector. My sim is only about 4" long--a plug connected to a urethane looking black bar. Is there a newer style, or do I need to modify the sim to make it fit?

My sims did not have a plug, had to splice in the stock plug off the O2 sensor. If the sims are x-metal PM Boomer and ask him, if you do end up having to splice on the stock connector you do not want to get the wires wrong or you can ruin the sim.

Actually, I finally found the thread that discussed cutting/filing off one of the tabs on the stock connector......My sim now fits. Boomer, please chime in if this was not the correct way to do it.

Well, I started it up and no codes so I must have gotten lucky with the first sim. Now tomorrow, I will work on the driver side. I think some of you guys are going to get your motors completed before I finish these mid pipes, LOL.

Not to worry young grasshopper one day u will acomplish your goal.

You do file down a locating pin on the side of the plug, then it works perfectly.

Bill.

you did it right, if they were still in the package there is a sticker on the front that shows to do just that.
now we use a mechanical sym, instead of electronic with our mids to make it easier for everyone.
