Courtyard homes are still very popular in Florida. There are many different courtyard house plans out there that can be modified to do what you want to do.

If I could suggest, however.... It would be in your best interest to sit down with an architect and work it out. This way he can do ALL of the plans correctly and make everything work. Although architects are expensive, this will actually save you money and time in the long run.
