So another new house question....

For some reason the two sinks in the masterbath cold water smells like sulpher when you first turn them on. The shower and all other water in the house doesn't. The house is only 2 years old and when we bought it (last month) all of the water tests were normal.

Other then my kid farting in the water, what the heck could be my problem (specific to my water question, not my naturally crazy state)?

Seth, are you on a well or municipal (city supplied) water....?

Completely forgot to add that. It is a well. Point is 800 feet deep. There is no water treatment as the water is not hard nor had any issues.

Wells are notorious for sulphur, iron and all kinds of shit:eek: ....I mean stuff...

You may wish to take another sample and submit it to a local test facility.

You can also send it to John Rowean at Superior Water if you're interested in a filtration and/or conditioning system designed specifially for your well... They cost up around 6 grand for a custom designed system... If you'd like more info, gimme a call....

You can check out the products here: www.superiorwater.com

Wouldn't be odd that only two faucets would smell in the entire house and only for a few seconds? Oh and only the cold water stinks.

It just takes a trace amount of sulphur to stink.... Are the two faucets in question closer to the main than the others?

hmm. could be that your are just that used to it. Some one like a city slicker like me hates well water. I can smell it at any house that isn't treated/ softened. my sister's house has a well. the water is treated and sometimes in the spring you can still smell it. I bought her a pur 1 water faucet filter and it seemed to reduce most of the sulfer smell

The second and third posts on that pertain. It's probably just time to chlorinate the well (post 2). I've had this problem with a past house and this did the trick. As to why he's only smelling it at two faucets, I don't know unless they are the first or highest on the system that the sulfur smell can get to. You just need to kill the bacteria causing the rotten egg smell.

Maybe you smell it more in the master bath because you get closer to the faucet (i.e. brushing teeth, etc).

This system works great (far cheaper than $6000.00) :D the only thing it does not do is deionize, but you can buy a deionizier from other sources if it is needed. This system even met OSHA standards for dentist's office's:rock:

The house is 6000 sq ft. I would say the master is as far away from the well tank as possible in the house. I smelled all of the others, its only those two. Also the shower doesn't stink. Important to note that I have two bathrooms in the master and both coldwater taps smell for the first 5 seconds or so.

They only smell for a few seconds..? Then I'd say the smell is in an air pocket of the well or somewhere in the pipes.....

Just guessing....

Is it everytime you turn them on or just the first time in the morning? It may be that the smell is able to concentrate overnight while the water is stagnant but once the water is circulated the smell goes away.:dontknow:

Maybe the sulfur fumes are getting caught in the Hammer-Stops. If the two locations in question are FURTHEST away from the main line, they probably have hammer-stops installed on them. :dontknow:
