splitting lanes at a buck ten
Well, after getting my ass lost but good looking for Mission Bay the other day (took the scenic route) I've decided that a GPS might be a good thing to have. ;) So I'm looking for some suggestions and tips. I've been looking at a Garmin with a 5" screen and traffic alerts. How about the same basic TomTom? Any other brands worth looking at? Not looking to spend a fortune of course.

Garmin is the only way to go, IMO. I've had mine for a few years now, so it's in desperate need of an update lol, but it always gets me to where I'm going:burnout: I think it's the Nuvi 760:dontknow:?

Garmin = more features on average
Tom Tom = more user friendly

Both try to get you ($) with new maps each year.

I fly with a Garmin too.
Wife has a Tom Tom for her car.

I don't think you will go wrong with either brand. However, Garmin is my preference.

what he said..i use to have the same unit, Nuvi 760 and it worked pretty well, now i used my Phone for all my maps n stuff!

tom-tom sucks, check to see if your cell phone has GPS most do, no need to buy updates your paying for it any way and they are offten better than anything else out there

yeap just use my android cellphone gets me where i need to go no extra fee's and free updates constantly :)

OCBob We sell a bunch of them at my store.

Garmin are the least returned and customers seem to be able to use their intuitive interface easily.

What are you planning to spend?

BEST
3760T---Is awesome. Has lane assist (accurately displays which lane you are supposed to be in) and speech recognition (talk to it) as well as it being thin (9mm), Traffic alerts that learn your traffic routes automatically, Bluetooth hand free kit, even has an attachment called ecoroute that has an obdII connector and will run diagnostics wireless on your vehicle!!!

BEST BUY FOR MONEY

1490TLMU---Lane assist, ecoroute capable, bluetooth hands free, traffic(basic) and FREE MAPS FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!

1390T---what most people buy. Cheap, Has bluetooth, 4.3 inch screen, was on sale for 189 (I sold 9 of em)

So Bob, if it were me, I would buy the 1490TLMU because lifetime maps typically cost 119 bucks. Don't plan on updating? Then why get a gps LOL.

Hope this helps. Got anymore questions? Give me a shout on my cell 910-617-3278!

Note: No I really do not like TomTom's. In my opinion they are not easy to use for average person (Lots of complaints to back up from customers). Doesn't Garmin supply our gov't with maps??

Wanna see just what that obdII connector can do------check this out!!!

Thanks for that info. See if I can find the LMU at a decent price. Found the 1490T for $231. I like the 5" screen.

Just get a freaking compass leatherneck:p :p :D ;)

Figures......I open my damn mouth for a suggestion and they recall 1.2 million units. The units are old models (2 years) but still. I own 2 garmins and have sold hundreds in 7 + years. Had 2 (that I remember) returned. One could not find satellites and the other....was user error. LOLOLOL
